Boga & the desperation for youth

Hello

so last night Jermaine Boga had a great game, picked up where he left off in the last 2 games for us.

A delightful player to watch and topped it off with a lovely goal last night and has outshone Salah who has looked lethargic, lazy his decision making was terrible at times and to the untrained eye it would seem Boga was the first teamer.

However, this is pre season it means nothing, none of our first teamers bar our back 4 have played yet as many will filter in over the next couple of weeks ( fabregas and Costa this weekend ).

Twitter is a haven for idiots however last night it took the biscuit, people called for salah to be sold, felipe luis was a waste of money and Bamford, izzy brown and Boga should all be first team players next season.

Simply put those guys are prospects, nothing more, nothing less. Boga actually reminds me of Kakuta and none of the above are half as good a McEachran in my eyes and look where he is now.....any one got any ideas?

My point is that. when we see a young guy come through and he plays well, or even scores that we as Chelsea fans immediately route for him because I think deep down we are desperate to have our own youth product shine through and take over the world.

In reality this transition from academy, youth teams to first team is a very rare thing.

I don't see any of the current crop of youngsters breaking through. Certainly not this year, maybe Ake may make some first team games.

We have a talented bunch no doubt, but to break into the Chelsea first team you cant just be good, you have to be great, consistently great. Which is why we are a top team fighting for domestic and European titles.

Carlo gave Pato regular football and Milan was also a high pressured job, or so i'm led to believe.

There is too much at stake as i've said so often myself, but Josh would've been a regular if Carlo felt he was ready.

Carlo was never under the same pressure at Milan as he was at Chelsea, particularly after Wilkins was sacked. You could see the difference before and after, always had a smile on his face but post Wilkins you knew e knew his days were numbered, if not for his performance then because (in my view) the sacking of Wilkins disillusioned him.

I've still no doubts if Carlo thought he was ready he would have picked him.

I think it's our desire to see a youth product "make it" that has clouded our own judgements.

But whatever, JFDI we're never gonna change each other's stance so, let call it an away goals score draw in flashy's favour

Call it as you wish, I'm not here to change peoples opinion, just share mine.

I doubt it is the desire to see youth make it though or we would be clamoring for more. I felt Josh had the best chance at the time, some thought Chalobah, in reality as yet neither have. There were a whole host of other promising players, those two were in the under 19 that beat the Spanish in the U19 Euro or WC (can't remember which it was now) and part of the first Chelsea youth team to win the youth FA cup since the 60's. There are plenty of youngsters I like and would wish to succeed, fewer I think that might.

I still think both could make it but `if I had to pick one it would be Chalobah.

Thing is on here and even more so on old 606, people were demanding the inclusion of players like Josh and Kakuta etc.

Now these people were watching those players week in week out in the youth team and then the reserves.

There is a massive step up from those 2 levels and even the SPL let alone the premiership.

But no matter, It gives me no pleasure, but i feel time has vindicated Carlo and all of his successors.

If game time guaranteed success for all players that showed promise in their initial games then we'd have never have sold Harley.

Because he did get game time and big things were expected of him.

I don't think time has, if they had given them chances they may have progressed, always more than one way of looking at things. We know where we are, but the options on how we got there will be debated forever.

It is this view I struggle to understand and where I always have the same disagreement with Brummie.

For me, every time a player steps on the pitch, irrespective of the club he represents, they are getting the chance to progress. I don't understand how one could argue that Josh has not had a chance to impress after loan spells with Swansea, Boro, Watford and Wigan. Ultimately it is down to the individual to make his mark, not for the club to indulge him...

I can only speak for Chelsea Biggish, at some of these other clubs he was a flair player, a luxury in a battle of attrition, he got mixed reviews, some very good, some average but no slating. different pressures.

At Chelsea he did okay, at Chelsea he would have had better support and a better opportunity of developing if we were in a position to use him and we should have been more so than those fighting for survival in the championship.

We know he has been here there and everywhere and that, we know what has happened.

That can't be argued but I will always argue and maintain that it could have been different under different circumstances, like those covered earlier.

My belief in that, like Brummies is unshakeable.
