Whether or not you believe Ornstein I think looking at Wenger's comments combined with past windows you can see what his intentions are.

I look at it this way.

Lets take Wenger's chain of thought from last season. He said we needed a striker because we were not able to score last year. So he bought Alexis to play as a striker. He has given enough interviews on subject to suggest that. That would automatically make Giroud a backup.

Now the backup gets injured and I am supposed to be overly worried? I have rated nor will I change my mind on Giroud.

There is a backup to Alexis needed if Theo gets re-injured which tends to happen after rehabilitating from knee ligaments problems. And I think he will sign someone.

So you think we're capable of winning the league without signing a holding midfielder and a striker?
And didn't you say a few days ago that Wenger has no excuses now but you seem to be making them for him already?

No I don't.

I think we need a world class striker and an equally rated holding player to win the league.

But I have noticed that the club can only go to one marquee signing a season, at a stretch two, c£30m signings.

Cavani etc would cost more if PSG were interested in selling. So I hope we can spend c£30m on one more player this window and buy a Welbeck or if Higuain is available at c£30m and a Rabiot. To be honest would be the best we can expect. We will probably end up with far less.

I am not making excuses for Wenger. I have never thought he could construct a title winning squad over night. Without Dein I hope he can do it over a couple of seasons. I expect us to be closer than last year with Alexis.

Or Wenger should go. His protection of Giroud has put us in this position in the first place. Frankly if Wenger had bought in a top class striker (not one that needed converting from the wing to striker - Alexis & Theo), Giroud would have fallen flat on his face against competition. So he protected Giroud and now that he is injured he can't find a top class player to replace him. No surprise.
