Diaby, Flamini, Arteta, Rosicky all in the last year of their contracts? I can only see Arteta from that lot getting an extension

Can Diaby even be called a footballer anymore??

Diaby is a box to box player. Remember when he was fit 2 years ago for the first month, him and Arteta had a great partnership with Arteta playing DM while Diaby being the engine of the team with Cazorla up top in the no 10.

Still remember the game vs Liverpool where the midfield played perfectly. Diaby was our Yaya Toure but now we have Ramsey for that and even Wilshere right now, so I can't see Diaby anywhere in the team sadly.

Rosicky will get one two. At some point he will be key in whatever we achieve this season. He is every year. I don't believe it's a coincidence that our winning streaks always seem to come at the same time he's fit.

Sell him, Problem solved.

That may be so, but we are not living in a perfect world here. Diaby is not in the peak of his fitness. We can't just assume cause he had a good game two years ago he can be a real choice for that position.

Since the beginning of that season our midfield has dramatically changed. Wenger has adapted to make us successful without the big guy in those positions. I'd argue that even a fully fit Diaby without the injury struggles isn't getting past Ramsey, Wilshere, Cazorla, Ozil or Oxlade Chamberlain for a spot in the middle.

In his physical condition, Diaby is not fit to be doing box to box. My point was that with his maturity and seniority in the team, he actually has the natural ingredients to be a far more adept holding midfielder than Arteta, a player who fitted into the role quite well despite it not being his natural game. And Arteta was always a more attacking minded player than Diaby.

And that is a position in which maybe he could play in without getting crocked every two games.

If we were somehow able to get some sort of consistent fitness out of him, I would deploy him there because I genuinely think with some consistent game time we could still get something out of his as thus far failure of a career (through no fault of his own).

Diaby will play alongside Ramsey in the Yaya Toure role.

Or we should say, Yaya Toure plays in the Diaby role.

He'd take Arteta's position, he can do that

Diaby was educated as a false nine at Clairfontaine (sp) and it was only during his time with us when he started to play a bit deeper.

This was despite Diaby failing miserably as a CDM at Clairfontaine (and Auxerre) and was deemed not to be defensively disciplined enough to play in the position.
