And Paisley is STILL the greatest.

So that word rarely means ?

The list proves otherwise !
.................................................

In what way did that list prove we are the biggest spenders in England?

It only contained the spending of one English team, it didn't even have all the players we have signed let alone all the ones we have sold....

But not a single other English team on the list.

So I ask again do you understand the word biggest?

Because it would actually require a comparison!

Because biggest spend would imply a bigger spend, than others, specifically in this case, in England.

We have rarely been the biggest spenders in England alone

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How the hell can you say rarely the biggest spenders.
The list I put up shows that in those years you were one of the biggest spenders for that season.
What's fecking rare about that ?
And you haven't thanked me yet for praising Fergie in one of my comments !!
Does it?
Because I can't see a single other teams spending in that list.
You do realise for something to be the biggest (in this case spend) its needs to be bigger than others (in this case the spending of other teams)
Its like me listing the tax revenues of Britain and claiming we are the richest nation on Earth.... despite the list of impressive looking numbers that would contain we still wouldn't be the richest nation on Earth.
Well you obviously know different.
For you to say rarely the biggest spenders in England implies, you know that other clubs in England outspent you.
You prove it !
You can find all your facts and figures there.
If you look at the figures from the start of the prem until 2000 you'll notice that Newcastle, Chelsea and Liverpool all had a higher net spend than us during that period.
similarly 2000-2010 City, Chelsea and Liverpool all have a higher net spend.
Up until a year and 3/4 ago (so after SAF left) Liverpool still had a higher net spend than us, but we have overtaken them since.
Funnily enough the only 2 English clubs to win a CL in that timeframe outspent us during SAF's entire premiership reign, and he still won it more than both of them...
That is before we get into the myriad of European clubs that had more spending power than SAF's United...
That's where I got "my list" from.
I'm not knocking the spending, if it needs it, then fine.
Which like I said earlier, Fergie was the master at buying the right player (no matter how much it cost) at the right time.
