How a player of such little ability got to play for a huge club like us is a little sad.

For me Hughes was always a player who I was happy to see on the bench.

Don't mean that in a he was rubbish way either. He could pretty much slot into any role in midfield or the back, you kind of knew that if anything happened to any player in those positions he could come on and was competent enough to see the game out and do a decent job.

Sometimes you need that on the bench
