"Forget about the future, I am judging these players on the here and now and what they have contributed so far in a Liverpool shirt.
Some of them have great potential and could turn out to be excellent players in 12 months' time - but that will not help Rodgers if he has lost his job by then."

I don't like Savage either but that statement from him is spot on.
By the look of it, every single game now is a must win for Rodgers and the fear of losing is job increases by the day.
Ideally, he should have bought 3-5 max players for the future but not 20

Why are you laughing at something that has already been posted on here by a Liverpool fan?
Are you mentally backward?

you should be looking for at least 'one for the future' for every starting XI slot
Unless you're Chelsea, City or United....and to a lesser extent Arsenal
the ready made quality will choose those 4 clubs over Liverpool everytime and they can all financially outgun us if by chance a target wanted to come to us

I still don't think you can blame Rodgers for our whole transfer policy.
Him saying he signs off every deal is not proof that signing primarily young players is exactly his choice and idea.
There is obviously more to it than that, or we wouldn't have a committee at all.

Gerrard has given up. He has no heart in it since the slip.

Tottenham also have a committee of sorts. Around the table sit Daniel Levy and Franco Baldini...and then rows and rows of empty chairs.
There is no genuine 'transfer committee' at Liverpool. The policy is a simple one with Rodgers choosing every single player, including some of those recommended to him by scouts or external contacts.
There is no hiding from the fact he simply terrible at transfers and has poor footballing judgement. I could probably win Liverpool the title if I had 206 million, and your wage structure, to hand. I like Liverpool's policy of buying players with Premiership experience but I cannot for the life of me explain why they continually waste money on overpriced midfielders.

It's very difficult to refute this opinion, the only thing I will say is like Spurs many players were bought for their potential.
What we learn from this is that even if the players is young and not good enough you are very unlikely to get your money back, so best to pick players who can hit the ground running.

Would any of the Liverpool fans reluctant to call Allen a miss on the grounds of his age like to rethink their hailing of Sterling as Ronaldo/Figo/Barnes mark 2 on ths basis of c. 16 good games over a 9 month period?
If we can't judge young players as a miss after 18 months at the club (Allen), can we claim anyone of that age as a hit?
