His contract expired last summer, we offered him a new contract but he decided to accept Man City/New York City's £190,000 per week contract offer.
Why do people like Martin Keown on Football Focus today keep insisting that we "let Lampard leave" ?? How does not matching City's 190k/offer constitute letting Lampard leave ?
We were never going to match City's 190k per week to keep Lampard as a sub. Not for a 36 year old no matter how big a club legend he was. Especially as we already knew Fabregas was coming in.
We didn't let Lampard leave.

“It wasn’t that I didn’t think I could still do it. If I felt like that I wouldn’t have gone to City on loan.
....
So he is a liar then. He's not on loan.

So I heard,mate.
Since summer had the right idea, heading for home, rather than trying to visit their away end again.
The meat hook story was awful.

Bluebells, I was in their home end. I never actually went down the away end but even from where we were we could see what looked like a meathook being waved around wildly down the other end by some absolute headcase who appeared to run at the fence with it against the Chelsea fans by the fence in the enclosure (not that we had much time to look other than directly in front of us either ).
I never did find out what became of that meathook until Brummie told me on here recently where it ended up after the game.
