India

Thrashed today by England in their very own form of pub cricket.

Thoughts?

It demonstrates to the selectors that the critics were right all along vis a vis wishy washy man.

1 * from me

It was a WUM, so what did one expect. However, worded a bit better and it has room to be a decent article.

Thoughts on the game...firstly congratulations England

Bowled well, and knocked the runs off quickly, a good confidence boost for the next game and a great start to the WC warmup.

India - where the heck do we start. Batting was awful, and that's supposed to be India's bread and butter.

No bottle, no nothing. They just couldent handle Englands pace attack. The wickets nice and flat which I though would have fallen into Indias hands. Im hoping its just a blip...

Mind you, really wouldn't want to see them peak right now, just graft through this tournament and the group stages, and peak during the knockout.

As for fatigue - 4 months is a long time..but this is the World Cup, the be all and end all of cricket on the sub continent. Can't see them losing focus.

Yuvraj should have been recalled, without a doubt.

Sehwag - NO..on his day he is a game changer..but those days seem to be few and far between. He is a walking wicket for the first 5-10 overs.

Lets face it.. apart from the also rans. no one knows who'll win the world cup.
depends on who bats and bowls best on the particular day..
different in test cricket.. theres no way on earth will the west-indies or Bangladesh beat SA home or away..
every team struggles away to Australia etc,
odi cricket is different.Eng[land could lose both games to the aussies make the final and then win the current series..

Anyway back onto todaysgame. The Indians cant bat when they cant get forward..they kept trying to play steven finn down to 3rd man and the ball was neck high..

Lefty

I'm sure these warm up one dayers will have little bearing on the outcome of the world cup games. I don't think it was fatigue today, just abnormally poor tactics on the day from India.

Usually get a lot of surprises at the world cup, I expect more of the same.

Look this triseries was so pointless. If anything it would probably look so bad if say you dominated in the triseries and then lost really badly in the WC.

BCCI should have rather sent the guys back home, get like 3 weeks rest, and then come back like 1st of feb and start preparing for WC. That would have been a sensible thing to do.

Right now India is struggling with injuries. Ishant, jadeja, Rohit are all injured/or have niggles. So thats why India isnt playing its best 11.

IMO the next set of players that really need rest is kohli and all the pacers. By now all the players should know what their meant to do, so no point of dragging them for this meaningless matches.

I would rather play kulkarni and mohit sharma and get them in the groove incase one of our pacers gets injured. So atleast they will have some idea of the conditions.

Obviously dhawan really needs to come back in form. hard to see how. Rahane and ambati rayudu are so inconstent and hence our middle order is quite shaky atm. Maybe if someone experianced like yuvi or even gauti could have made a difference.

Oh well too late to make any changes now.

I'm happy to see India out there preparing well for the WC, and gettng used to the conditions.

But agree Viru - some rest in between would have been good

and as lefty pointed out, for india the world cup means alot. they can all be injured but come day 1 of wc, you will see a different side. fatigue, physical tiredeness and everything will go out of the window.

I thought todays tactics was really good. other teams after getting out for 150 odd runs would have unleashed their top bowlers to bowl the majority of the overs. But dhoni thought ow. he didnt want to tire the bowlers when the game was already lost. and also ig gave him an opportunity to try out binny who imo will play a crucial part in NZ and on pitches like WACA

dhawan aint good enough.he plays to square on the backfoot..
best batsmen can get forward and back..Dhawan gets stuck on the crease..
what ever happened to the left handed batsman?? he was only small.. his name escapes me now, am sure he was a wicketkeeper aswell. he impressed me the tour before last to England about 4 years ago..Dhawan aint good enough in my opinion.
