Europa League winners, now they get a spot in next season's Champions League, what round do they enter?
More importantly if they're from our country; will they steal the CL spot from 4th place in the league?
Also, you may or may not know, as Arsenal found out when signing Ozil, the 4th place spot has to come through qualifiers. Their passage to the Champs League proper is only cemented mid August-ish, making marquee signings very difficult. Unless you have war-chest upon war-chest.
Also anybody complaining about vG; saying style over substance, etc, particularly in this season where CL qualification is essential to our sponsorship deals, needs to be shot.
Get us to third Louis, and we'll all wipe the slate clean...........or we should.
Spurs, Liverpool, Arsenal, Man United fans, would you take substance over style for a CL spot?

So yes losing Anderson would have been a big loss as he had done well for us the previous season. Maybe Liverpool's position was false as they didn't suffer as many injury problems as United after all?

To say Liverpool were best after factoring injuries and missing your star player in is quite laughable considering this season, you are blaming CL for your demise in the league, or should I say using no CL football as a stick to beat vG with as he's not challenging the league.
When we beat you to the 2009 PL, that team had been to TWO consecutive CL finals, and it was an International Tournament year sandwiched between.
So in short, we had the most gruelling schedule, had the most matches and won the most points.
But you were better.

A lot of teams nicked undeserved points against us. Liverpool are lucky they are so close to Man utd. People seem to only remember Liverpool home Arsenal away Southampton away and think we are lucky when we battered teams like that and lost and drawn a lot of games.

I don't blame the cl for anything
I don't think it effects teams until the knockout rounds anyway as teams are already starting to tire
If anything the extra matches earlier in the season help the side to settle imo

As in fact up to this point not playing in Europe has actually made us worse?!
I have to strongly disagree to be honest, even if you have a weakish group you can't drop you entire starting 11 and the extra games mean more fatigue and more chance of injury.

For a change TKT I agree mostly, its the accumulation of games that does more harm, it still has an effect though in that players will be a little bit fresher than ones who played midweek in Europe and less games lessens the chances of injury.
More of an effect as the season goes on though.

A bit of what I'd politely describe as nigh on idiocy to think the early group games don't have an effect on the squad. Ok the extra games might help bonding, but the travelling??? You never heard of the cliche "European hangover"
