According to this article "Chelsea fans most racist in the Premier League according to Home Office Statistics".
When you actually read the article it says, "Figures from the last 13 seasons, when such records were first compiled, show that Chelsea followers have been arrested on 27 occasions for either racist or indecent chanting".
Take into account that says EITHER racist OR indecent chanting, not racist AND indecent chanting.
Indecent chanting on it's own doesn't necessarily involve being racist as far as I'm aware, unless someone wants to correct me on that. Indecent chanting covers a wide range of things, none of which necessarily involves racism in any way.
So how many of those 27 arrests were for actual racist chanting and not for just indecent chanting? Were all 27 arrests for racist chanting or just 1 of them ? It's extremely unclear here.
Even if all of those 27 arrests were for racist chanting alone (which I seriously doubt) then we're not exactly way out ahead of all other Premier League clubs in terms of numbers arrested.
When you actually look at the article and the statistics presented there have been a fairly similar amount of arrests of West Ham and Sunderland fans in that same time period for racist or indecent chanting.
Stoke City have actually had more arrests for racist or indecent chanting than us in the same time period but according to this Metro article that doesn't count because part of that time was when Stoke were in the Championship.
Also the graph displayed in this Metro article is very confusing. What time frame is it relating to exactly ? Absolutely no information at all is given about that which seems extremely strange, even when you click to enlarge it.
Talk about skewing statistics and sensationalising headlines to try and paint a very misleading and unfair picture.
Thanks again Metro for some highly informative, well researched and excellent journalism
Is this Metro article really necessary ?

Poor chelsea fansmust be hard trying to be the third best side in Europe and fighting of racism accusations. Couldn't have happened to a nicer club.

You think we're third best? Wow cheers

Like a lot of clubs we do have some proble s with racist minorities...and I think we used to tyrn too much of a boind eye to them.
That said this article is click bait at best. When the numbers are this low it is hard to make arguments of racism levels of clubs based on arrests.
Also you are right to make the difference between racist and indecent chanting...
I think the likes of of Collymore do have a point actually, but it isnt a point specific to Chelsea. I feel he is being very simplistic whilst others are using this as an excuse to hypocritically criticise teams they dont like

Eh??? I’ve just had another look at that league table, and they’ve changed it since yesterday.
Yesterday it showed figures over a longer period of time, and the columns were slightly different. Racist chanting had its own column, and now it doesn’t.
So the new table only shows last season, and the figure in the Chelsea column for racist AND indecent chanting is now....er....zero.
So in spite of the article being based on the table, the table now doesn’t even illustrate anything at all of what the article is purportedly about, and the figures quoted in the article don’t match up (and they only did so yesterday with a bit of sneaky manipulation, which I'm guessing has now been pointed out to them).
Perhaps they’ve even embarrassed themselves, they've withdrawn the table on which the whole thing was based.

Oh my goodness you're right. They've completely changed the original table that they had in the article from yesterday !
The table now shows Chelsea had precisely 0 arrests for racist chanting last season and the second table they've added (there was only one table yesterday) is just a table relating to general arrests over the UK.
So Chelsea had no arrests for racist chanting last season but we're supposedly the most racist club in the PL according to this toilet paper.
This Metro article was laughable yesterday, now it's something beyond that I struggle to find words for.

Yes, so they've changed the article from being desperately tenuous to being weird and nonsensical.
