He's a really nice guy and has a great attitude so I should like him but just the sight of him in an Arsenal shirt annoys me, still can't believe we signed him and paid Man Utd £16m for this clown. Anyone else feel the same way?

Yea I wasn't happy when he signed him, then I kind of warmed to him. It's difficult really because he seems like he's a good guy and I also want him to do well to spite United, but the guy has no composure whatsoever in front of goal which is by a mile his biggest flaw and for a striker it is the worst flaw to have.
Outside the box he is actually pretty good.

Was disgusted when we wasted £16m on him, warmed to him slightly because of his attitude and work rate (though anyone that believes his guff about "always wanting to play for Arsenal should be shot).
Think we overpaid for him based on talent but suppose he's a good enough backup/rotation option.

dont rate him at well, think he will be sold soonish Jan 2016, not good enough for us works hard is all you can say about him, has that stupid grin when he misses a chance.

Too early tbh. This is Welbeck's first season and he rarely gets a chance up front.
£16m is a bargain when you consider that we paid £16m for Chambers whose first team football was limited at Southampton.
What we do know is that he is not a winger and playing him wide is silly. He has done enough of that at Man Utd. Give him next season with more playing time up front and if he doesn't progress we could still get £10m for him from a Sunderland or a Hull.

Everything looks like a bargain if we really paid £16m for Chambers.
Don't get why Welbeck gets treated as a youngster who may come good when he's turning 25 this year and has been playing at this level for ages and players like Walcott - who is a massive 6 months older than Welbeck - are treated like a finished product who won't improve anymore.
If Welbeck is a £16m player, you'd probably have to say Theo is a £40m one.

This, many times over. Baffles me completely this one.

The new TV deal is £5.5Bn. Where do you think that will go? We could probably make profits on those two in a couple of years.

Do you think that's one of the reasons we've looked to move to a British core? To try to keep our player values high?

I think the British core is needed to win trophies. You can sometimes buy all the skilled players in the world but there are so many intangibles to settling in. Frankly foreign players aren't used to intensity of the British fans whether its a cup against some lower league team or a Champions League team.
This is one reason why I like the way Mourinho judges players. He rates desire, work rate and honesty equally with skill.
Just compare John Terry with Mertesackers attitude.

Yeah, fair point. Interesting how we went from that CL game 4 or 5 years ago where we didn't have a single British player in the squad to having that as our base now.

Yep. Was so surprised when he sold Mata but in fairness looks like a great deal now - good technical player but ultimately a luxury one
