For a country that never used to understand the game, America seems to have a good product in the MLS.
Not really seen much of it till now, but had a look at the highlights of the games played this weekend so far and the stadiums and pitches look good, they are full of spectators, goals were good quality and they have good players. Looks like you can get a beer and have a good fun day out.
Compare that with scotland, bad pitches, and empty stadiums, no beer etc.
It doesnt help i know not having Rangers, hibs and Hearts in the spl but the empty stadiums is not good, just looks like a dead product.
Like Dave King said, scottish football could lose a generation of people where their fathers took their children to the football.
Am i wrong or do young people not really go to the football in scotland now and instead have turned to other activities?
They need to lower prices to games and let kids in for free even, and get some safe standing in. Give free public transport use as a benefit of buying the ticket etc. Get some decent sponsorship.
Anyway, just an observation.

Jukebox, you are talking absolute nonsense, I'm glad to see you think the change in the league to knockout format is unfair? Oh and the World Cup oh and the euros.
Different tournaments are played under different countries traditions.

It's unfair to the team that has won their league after 34 games.
Why not just have one cup game between the two division champions?

As for the World Cup, it's a cup competition which adopts a very small league element.
It's incomparable to a 34 game season.

Where will the money for all of these "free" things come from though? Lowering prices will just starve clubs and will barely see any increase in attendance, as is evidenced by the numerous £5/£10 special days that only see about 1,000 extra people turn up. Plus, Partick Thistle have free U-16 entry, yet their average attendance isn't exactly great.
And aside from Celtic, most clubs in the top flight have had increased attendances since Rangers' demise. So that's certainly not an issue.
Again it comes down to marketing. The MLS is brilliantly marketed. The PL is brilliantly marketed. The SPFL Premiership is so poorly marketed that fans are writing articles calling it the "SPL", two years after it was completely rebranded. And it STILL doesn't even have a title sponsor...

Good question, its not a good business model to give free tickets away when someone would have paid something for those seats.
Take Celtic for example, their top deck is sometimes closed, so clearly there is no revenue coming in with that closed. So why not open a section of the top deck in circumstanes like that and let adults in for minimal price, say £5, and children in for free, and those people that come in will probably buy some food before and during the game. Also, they may buy some merchandise too.
Its not about making a profit out of them, but its about getting more people into the ground and getting young people in and interested.
There is a lot more clubs could be doing to get more people in rather than less people at high prices, so that they dont need to pay for staff etc.

Surprised clubs don't have quick release inflatable fans yet under their empty seats

G3r5fan - Just not the way economics work. You just end up devaluing your product if you cut prices like that. Folk who paid full price would also be resentful towards those paying £5.
It's the reason companies let surplus food go to waste rather than just cutting the price. Same is true if selling skills - a plumber with little work isn't going to cut their fees from £30/hr to £10/hr in order to find work.
