I think to everyone, it is clear that McDowall needs to do the off smartish and i cant see past the return of Walter on a 3 month basis. He commands respect, he's worked with some of the players and would immediately get the team playing.
That said - i do believe the next permanent appointment should be as far removed from the mould as Smith as possible who only really ever focused on the season rather than beyond which stifled the development of many a young player.
Smith has a few blots on his jotter, mccoist the biggest, but gaining promotion would be yet another reason why he will forever be a legend.
It can only be Smith

He's saoid he'll help in anyway he can and hasn't discounted a short term return . He would be ideal and would allow the Board to do what's necessary re a long term replacement .

We need to do now what we should have done three years ago.
Decide on the style of play and pick the manager accordingly and you can look at Swansea as an example of where this works.
Get the right manager in now and let the team develop around him.
I know its a divisive subject on here but another year in the championship in my opinion wouldn't be a disaster as long as we ht the ground running the season after next with a team that have gelled and are playing attractive stuff.

No no no no ! Get into the SPL and consolidate ! It isn't la liga it's the SPL,, a wan horse race. If a new coach can't get a new squad with the 2nd highest budget in the league in front of 45 k at home into 2 nd place ....he shouldn't have been appointed !

No chance.
He deserves his retirement, and not to taint his legacy with a potential failure to gain promotion.
