Always Look On The Bright Side of Life

You sing as you're nailed to the cross thinking, 'Where did it all go wrong?'

Apt for Easter.

Unless the usual suspects on here get their heads out from out of their backsides and accept our squad is in a mess the better they'll sleep at night. Putting it in 'perspective' is delusion. The bottom line is our squad isn't good enough for top 4. There is no perspective right now. Last season we beat Arsenal 5-1: yesterday they humiliated us, no other word for it. Who have we beaten above us this season? A far cry from last. We've gone backwards not forwards and it's not just because Suarez has gone; we have problems in the whole squad. Very little has been addressed.

We needed a new top quality striker in January and one wasn't bought. Hence Sturridge was injured and we had to rely on a very loose forward line and frankly Balotelli has been a waste of time and money.

We p'd Suarez's money up the wall on bang average: Lovren, Mignolet, Markovic to name a few - and no I don't care how old they are. Yes, we had an unbeaten run - not quite sure how, but we did, and suddenly we were all that again; but we rode our luck and against the Mancs it ran out.

Sterling, for all his talent, isn't worth 150 k a week. No club in his current form will even pay £30 million for him right now so he can kiss those kind of wages goodbye, at least for now. Has he learnt nothing from Torres' last season with us when suddenly, mysteriously and miraculously upped his game; then Sterling can move on into obscurity in a big club if he likes: I for one won't give a monkey's then. In any case, I wouldn't trust us to spend any fee for him wisely. There's been talk of us putting in a bid for James Milner, FFS!

For those who say the big names want London (seen on another thread) there's bggr all we can do about geography, but what about selling the Liverpool brand? Manchester isn't in London but the Mancs seem to do it all right.

On the whole I blame this ridiculous transfer committee who wouldnt know a good footballer if one kicked them in the face. Rodgers has to do what he has to do with what he has so his hands are tied (not much with the lemons we have right now), but unfortunately, ultimately, the buck always stops with the manager and I know it won't be popular, but I can see him gone sooner rather than later unless FSG realise we can't keep on masquerading as the bridesmaid and not the bride, and that fans' patience will run out with them.

But that won't happen, will it? It is what it is.

And all of a sudden the Champions League has all but gone and people are suddenly desperate for the Europa League when usually it isn't worth a tin of beans. It's a cup, it's better than bggr all which is what we do keep on getting.

No, we won't win the FA Cup, either. If we were good enough we would have put Blackburn to bed by now.

Happy Easter.

You are the antithesis of got better, if you win every game that's 75 pts, that could be enough )

I don't like Easter. All the shops are closed. I thought religion was all about ethnic cleansing nowadays. Why should the shops close for this??? I need a new cycling top

Brendan Rodgers' Liverpool vs Chelsea, Man City, Man Utd, Arsenal (as it stands): P27 W5 D7 L15 F34 A47

That is a terrible record.

Hangover season, transition season, gelling season, injury ravaged season ... call this season whatever you want, we should try our best to end it on a high and tweak (not rebuild) in the summer.

We need a good goalie, defender and a striker. We need someone creative in midfield. We can sell a couple to make the funds.

We need a good preseason and importantly a GOOD START to the next campaign.

We're not in a mess. We have a good squad that just needs a couple of top class additions in summer. If our squad had gelled earlier in the season we would pretty much have top four wrapped up by now, so that alone should make people more optimistic for next season.

Overall, a good article. Mig needs a back-up, not a replacement, he has redeemed himself in my eyes since his return. Brendan has his work cut out. I think Raheem too will try and redeem himself by signing a new contract, although I accept many will disagree.
We are who we are, where we are, with the level of financial backing we have.
Get on with it.

I agree re the top notch forward replacement for luis but we were all over Sanchez but alas. We were then desperate so they brought whoever they cud get(BR admitted this in the early part of the season. Imagine if the reaction if we'd bought no striker at all!!??) and u get poor availability and value in jan, so unfortunately we have to wait till the summer an make the best of it. I agree we shud have gotten a striker as soon as the window opened like we did with studge wen we signed and Coutinho. Then if the deal went south (literally) we wud have time for plan b.
I hate the committee. If it was they made suggestions to BR and he had the decision then I think it wud work, but I don't think it works that way. I reckon he has an opinion the same as the others but consensus rules.

Last summers priority was squad depth ready for cl. However too many players needing time to settle and the lack of either of last year strikers left is toothless strangers.
I really hope this summer is 2/3 top notch (or as near as we can get) in key positions:stk, cm, cb and we spend all the budget with higher revenue from prem (and we get value). This squad isn't far away with those 3 top notch additions to what we have, this will get us up there.
As for out performance vs top four contenders, we haven't been great. Too much respect or we played them when we were transitional. That'll change next season if we don't buy 8 players and get the players to fit the system rather than the other way round.
As for the remainder of the season, we can win most of those games and get near but I doubt the others(arsenal, utd and city) will drop enough points for us to overhaul them. This is a shame, just have to try and get back to winning ways and hope
Not a great season and hopefully we will learn in the summer and get the 2/3 players we need for the first team.
