In a time where we watch players who tend to look after themselves first and formost you had exemplary players like Richie, totally focused on the team and success on the field.
Where we have vacuous commentators with very little charisma or knowledge to impart you had Richie to while away the hours with his voice of the summer.
Great cricket player for Australia and such a fantastic commentator too. Sadly passed away after battling skin cancer.

RIP Richie.
Always described as "the voice of cricket" and for me growing-up to love the game he, together with "Johnners" were just that.
Will be sadly missed.

The voice of cricket for me, never watched him play but would while away hours listening to him.

I'm so saddened to read this. I haven't really followed cricket in recent years as as I used to, but back when I did, Richie's commentary was one of the main reasons for enjoying watching - even helping get me through the frequent England batting calamities.
What a top bloke he was.
Thanks for all the insight, not to mention the gentle humour, Richie.
That you so obviously enjoyed the game, helped countless others enjoy it too.
