Barcelona Fallout plus Monaco

Hi guys, was a fascinating race yesterday and it appears Mercedes have a larger advantage over the field that was first thought. I was also impressed by the performance of the Williams of Bottas as well. Obviously the track idenitifies which car has the best overall package which may explain the dominance.

On a separate note, it appears the Ferrari struggles to light up the harder tyre as well as Hamilton at a stage was consistently 2.5 secs faster than Seb which made him take second place with relative ease after a couple of dodgy pitstops.

Nico came back to the fore with a dominant performance and for the sake of the season, we need more of that from him. I was very worried Hamilton had destroyed him psychologically.

In a couple of weeks time we head to the worst race on the calendar in my humble opinion (Monaco) where there will be no overtaking and if any of the mercs gets pole, it is safe to say barring a botched pitstop, they will win. I am however looking forward to how quali will go considering what happened last season.

I also think the Ferraris will be a lot closer to the mercs as will the redbulls.

So fellas, are we seeing a resurgence of Britney or will the former pússycat doll take revenge?

Your thoughts please

Was doing other things whilst watching yesterday but Nico two-stopped, didn't he? I would have been interesting to see what would have happened without Lewis getting stuck behind Vettel and trying a three stop. But Barcelona isn't the best track for overtaking so the result would have probably been the same.

It would be nice to have a non-Merc on pole at Monaco though. And a couple of safety cars during the race would make things interesting too.

I think all this talk of a resurgence is a bit OTT (based on just one race). Nico will win races this year but I think, like last year, Lewis will win a good percentage more.

Dummy is firmly out of the pram - BBC reporting that Red Bull will quit if Audi don't come in as an engine partner. Looks like the Renault relationship has fully broken down. Can't blame them really, the engine has been a joke. Already used 4 and they'll be getting grid penalties on a regular basis if the trend continues.

Having said that, the car isn't up to it either if the Toros are ahead on pace, unless they have been nurturing some talent.

Mikey - agree, result would have been the same, Merc wouldn't have split the strategies and so Lewis would have 2 stopped later than Nico each time. Probably closed the gap but been stuck like he was for first 2 stints.

Audi will come in and have the same issues as Honda

Is there any chance F1 will ever go back to V8, I miss the sound of a V8 engine. These new engines sound like Go-karts.

I think that in the name of fairness there should be four qualifying periods this year,

Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q Germans.

That should ensure the crowd, who pay a fortune for tickets are not cheated of a genuine sporting challenge for all competitors.
