Chavez Jr the second coming.

If you guys don't already know,Chavez Jr has been training with his new coach and trainer Robert Garcia for a few weeks now. It is safe to say that at this point Jrs career hangs in the balance. After his devastating loss last time out against Fonfara this is pretty much last chance saloon for him.

Despite his set backs and his issues Ii genuinely think Jr can make a relatively successful come back under the tutelage of Robert Garcia. I'm under no illusions as to the talent gap between Chavez Sr and Jr and i do not expect Chavez Jr to become a pound for pound superstar but with Garcia in his corner he has the right tools at his disposal. Garcia as we know trains and has trained some big names in the game such as Maidana, Mikey Garcia,Donaire and Margarito. In recent years he has become one of the best trainers in the world and i can see him getting Chavez Jr back on the right path. The way Garcia improved Maidana as a fighter is the same way i think he will improve Chavez. He helped Maidana utilise the jab a lot more and use it to set up and create a platform for him to use his strengths. Chavez has a non existent jab and Garcia will look to help him utilise it a lot more and then use his other strengths to work around the jab. Maidana also mentally under Garcia became a lot more composed and he picked his shots a lot better. Chavez Jr has been erratic as a fighter and in the Fonfara fight he looked mentally all over the place. If Garcia can get Chavez to use his head a lot more and pick and choose when to attack and just be a smarter fighter in general,we could see the best of Chavez. Another issue Chavez Jr had was his discipline. He trained at random times and never kept in shape. Under Garcia he seems to be sticking to a rigid training time structure and this should help him keep him in shape during the off season. There is clearly respect there between Garcia and Chavez which i think stems from both being Mexican. I feel with Freddie he had a more relaxed relationship. Most fighters have a turning point in there career,a fight that changes them going forward. The Fonfara fight could be Jrs defining moment, whether it be a positive or negative moment remains to be seen.

Thoughts on chavez jrs future?

I think he's got massive potential if he will put forth the effort.

That said, if I remember correctly a Mexican has never won a belt at SMW before.

People rag on him, but if boxing isn't his main desire in life then so be it
