Good afternoon.
I thought I would look at the stats to see who has been the best striker in the PL so far this season. The 2 main criteria for being the best striker in the PL are:
1. To be a team player, so not being selfish.
2. Tracking Back
Not Being Selfish Rankings
The table below shows the not being selfish rankings. It shows the number of times a striker has been selfish by unsuccessfully not scoring. The less times you are selfish by this criteria, the higher up the not being selfish rankings you will find yourself.
Not Being Selfish Ranking | Player | No. of Times Selfish |
1 | Rooney | 0 |
2 | Aguero | 1 |
2 | Benteke | 1 |
2 | Costa | 1 |
2 | Falcao | 1 |
2 | Giroud | 1 |
2 | Kone | 1 |
2 | Long | 1 |
9 | Defoe | 2 |
9 | Pelle | 2 |
9 | Vardy | 2 |
12 | Ayew | 3 |
13 | Gomis | 4 |
13 | Mahrez | 4 |
13 | Wilson | 4 |
As you can see Rooney tops the not being selfish rankings for this season, with incredible stats showing that he has not once been selfish this season. Almost all other strikers in the league have been selfish on at least one occassion!
Tracking Back Stats
Tracking Back is arguably the number one quality the best striker in the Prem must have. Everyone goes on about how the likes of Sanchez etc tracks back but what I think makes a much better striker is their ability to set up track backs for team mates.
Below is the tracking back assist stats. This shows the number of times a striker has set up a potential track back for a team mate by not not giving the ball away to an opposition player.
Track Back Assist Ranking | Player | No. of Track Back Assists |
1 | Rooney | 78 |
2 | Aguero | 10 |
2 | Benteke | 10 |
2 | Costa | 10 |
2 | Falcao | 10 |
2 | Giroud | 10 |
2 | Kone | 10 |
2 | Long | 10 |
9 | Defoe | 9 |
9 | Pelle | 9 |
9 | Vardy | 9 |
12 | Ayew | 7 |
13 | Gomis | 6 |
13 | Mahrez | 6 |
13 | Wilson | 6 |
As you can see Rooney tops the tracking back assists for team mates table. And by some distance. Again I think this shows how selfish other strikers are by holding on to the ball instead of selflessly not holding on to it.
This concludes the statistical analysis of who is the best striker in the PL.
Stats don't lie.
Goodbye.
