Will Klopp Love COC?

While his full season eventually unraveled, I think Kenny had the right idea in prioritising the League Cup and getting a trophy on the board.

It had been a long time since we won anything, and I think that run definitely gave us the confidence to then reach the FA Cup final too.

It will be 4 years in February since that penalty shoot out victory over Cardiff, and no trophies have followed.

Klopp takes over a team with only 1 trophy since 2006, as Brendan Rodgers became the first Liverpool manager for 50 years to go 3 seasons in charge without winning one.

Klopp's 4th game in charge will be the last 16 tie at home to Bournemouth, just 4 games from a final and 5 from that elusive trophy win.

Of course there will be some rotation involved and several big hitters are still in the competition. Chelsea, Arsenal, City, Utd all remain, as well as Southampton, Palace and Leicester. Oh and Everton are still in it.

Klopp has a fine cup record from his time with Dortmund, what chance a Wembley final to start his Liverpool career with a bang? Or will Bournemouth end that early with a revenge Anfield win?

We have a big enough squad to be competitive it two games a week.

that was most peoples issue with Brendan, and the fact that he left us in a position where it will be more difficult to qualify from the europa now is unforgiveable really.

hes facked up two of the easier games of the group stage, and i wonder how many teams have ever gotten out of european group stages without winning either of their first two games?

either way we now have 4 games remaining, the hardest home game (bordeaux will be set up for a draw) and the two furthest away trips (switzerland and russia)

had we won at bordeaux instead of setting out for a draw, and beaten sion, instead of being too afraid of getting beaten then the kids could have navigated the two longer trips so we had no league hangover.

"Klopp takes over a team with only 1 trophy since 2006, as Brendan Rodgers became the first Liverpool manager for 50 years to go 3 seasons in charge without winning one."

You mean go his first three seasons without winning one.

Pretty sure Rafa didn't win a title in his last 4 straight seasons at Liverpool.

That was 05-06.

He didn't win a major title in 06-07, 07-08, 08-09, 09-10.

But it just occurred to me he won the Community Shield at the beginning of the 06-07 season. So technically it was 3.

I think we should be resting players for the Capital One Cup, of course if we then find ourselves in the semi-final, we should be all out for it.

resting playeru what ffs, we need to be winning all games and winning a cup in his first season would be great for klopp and building team confidence.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, resting players. We built up a squad for this reason and like every other club in world football, we will rest players for less important games, using the squad in order to be at full strength for the important games.

People who think you can play the same team in every game when you're in four competitions are in for a big surprise, again this season, like the many seasons past, as they still haven't learned this lesson yet.

of course different players will be played however resting players shouldn't really be necessary for a modern day player with all the technology available now.

If a player cannot put a 90mins shift in twice a week maybe they shouldn't be playing fotty professionally.

What do you mean all the technology available? bionic legs and lungs?

Only thing different now is the knowledge of what the players should and shouldn't eat and more advanced treatments or injury prevention.

If anything, technology has made players play less due to the knowledge of what happens if a player is overplayed. The risk of injury is a lot higher the more they play.

And the reason players are rested sometimes in a 2 match week isn't because they can't play 2 matches in a week, it's because they can't play 50 matches a season (some players can). Players will get burnt out and be more injury prone and fatigued.

There's an argument that you can say broadly the same team for a whole season, but what's the long term impact?

Chelsea rotated relatively little last season with a smallish squad of quality. This season many of those players look frankly ruined.
