Just having a discussion with another member on the site about the terminology used to describe the team you support.
When discussing your team do you say 'we' and 'us' or do you use the club name whenever you are discussing such matters?
Consider the following:
CAMP A
'We had a great game against Liverpool, which really boosted my hopes for our finishing position this season'
or
CAMP B
'United had a great game against Liverpool, which really boosted my hopes for United's finishing position this season'
Personally I feel that if you align yourself and have an affinity with a club, then using we, us and other inclusive terms is not only acceptable, but I would suggest it's the norm.
Thoughts?

The capitals was just emphasis... If I was able to I would have put the 'is' and 'are' in italics.
Anyhow, that's not the point of the article

Liverpool IS a city.
Liverpool ARE a football club.
Liverpool, the city, IS employing a new mayor.
Liverpool, the football club, ARE signing a new player.

Capitalising doesn't make you right bud
What's the difference between Liverpool the football club and Liverpool the city in this context?
Chronic is in fact absolutely correct; they can both be right (depends if you're talking about it as a singular unit [the club] or multiple units [the fans for eg] and of course they (collective so I can use --->are indeed a joke.
I think I've got that rightknow the joke part is

Guys! Using "are" in the context of a single / singular item is wrong! Liverpool is a single city. Liverpool FC is a single club. Using are in those examples above is wrong. If you're referring to the fans, then specify that in the construct and then use are eg "Liverpool fans *are* deluded if they think Liverpool will make Top 4 this season."

OK, so to the point of the article: as a fan, do you use 'us' and 'we' when talking about the club you support?

I did answer somewhere above but wouldn't suggest you go looking for it. Basically, I interchange. I do say "we" because of the attachment by virtue of being a fan but actually think I should use "Arsenal" or "they" or whatever purely on the basis of ownership. I don't own any shares so the club isn't really mine.
