Doping in Football?

God international breaks are awful aren't they?

On a different note, in the light of the Russian athletics doping scandal (which I reckon will also eventually extend to many other countries), Wenger says that doping has been rife in football for years:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/arsenal/11987053/Arsenal-news-Arsene-Wenger-claims-football-has-widespread-doping-problem.html

He goes on to say that some legends of the game are cheats including many that his team have played against although he doesn't say if this limited to England, Europe, etc.

Uefa of course denies his claims. So what do you reckon, is Arsene onto something here? Given the recent goings on with the world cup bidding it wouldn't surprise me at all if this turned out to be true and it was being covered up by Uefa, Fifa, etc.

T Bone, they should also check Macheda. He looked like a 35 year old when he made his debut for United.

Had a run in with his entourage a few years ago. Bunch of Italian scallies!!

What I don;t get is that a player who takes cocaine gets banned ads they say it may enhance his performance. Have these people ever taken coke and do they realise that some drugs actually make you play worse??

With the amount of money involved in the sport, it would be no surprise whatsoever to find out that doping's pretty widespread in football. I'd also imagine it's been going on for ages and has been covered up left, right and centre, but I'd also imagine that if it's been covered up by the games int'l governing bodies it's likely to have been covered up by national authorities and leagues too.

Can't stand Wenger's holier than thou stance though, and I don't buy it either.

I used to play far better on Coke. Pretty hard to give 100% when you leave a club at 4am and kick off at 10am.

I miss school football

Our Sunday kickabouts used to reward volunteer keepers with a spliff between the sticks. 20 minutes in we'd have about 4 outfield players left.

We used to share a J and have a can of beer before our sunday league games after clubbing.

I once got booked for running off the pitch to be sick. I didn't realise you had to inform the ref if you leave the pitch

With the reputation of both EUFA and FIFA in absolute tatters, with Our Sepp being hospitalised due to his strenuous efforts to proclaim his innocence, the last thing the game needs is a football doping scandal.

For there to be any credibility, legitimacy within the sport, there needs to be a root and branch expulsion of the bad guys, replacement by genuine non-corrupt individuals before they could even begin to tackle any perceived doping scandal.
