Danny Garcia vs Robert Guerrero predictions

This Saturday night Al Haymons PBC presents another mouth watering match up at the staples center in Los Angeles as Danny Garcia takes on
Robert Guerrero for the WBC title.

Philadelphia has boxing ingrained into its very being. From the late great Joe Frazier to the recent age defying Bernard Hopkins,it has a habit of producing talented boxers and it's latest product is following suite.Trained by his father Angel Garcia,Danny Garcia was often viewed as the under dog but proved that in boxing, critics often find themselves eating there own fists. Having won his first world title against Mexican Legend Erik Morales,Garcia's career defining moment came against Amir Khan. Going into the fight as the underdog, Garcia stunned the boxing world by flattening Khan and becoming the undisputed lightweight champion. Garcia had to prove his mettle once more when he took on and defeated the bogey man in the division,Lucas Matthysse. Having established himself as the best lightweight on the planet,Garcia chose to move up and test himself against the best welterweights. Holding a record of 30-0-0, Garcia has been accustomed to winning. His bread and butter is undoubtedly his left hook but a tough chin, heart and underrated ring IQ present a combination that those in the welterweight division will not find easy to handle.

Guerrero in Spanish translates to warrior and in this instance, the man and the name are one.Robert Guerrero was also trained by his father and whilst most will advise not to mix business and relationships, this is one that has proved fruitful.Guerrero plied his trade as a featherweight earlier on in his career before jumping up two weight classes and capturing the WBC welterweight title by defeating Selcuk Aydin.Following his title victory, Guerrero defeated former two time champion Andre Berto,in which proved to be the highlight win of his career. The impressive win earned Guerrero an opportunity only a handful acquire, a date with pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather. The fight ended up being a one sided affair in favour of Mayweather and despite having gained invaluable experience, Guerrero would have undoubtedly felt disappointed with his performance. Now hoping to climb back to the top of the division, holding a record of 33-3-1, Guerrero is one of the toughest customers out there. Possessing durability and power, Guerrero excels at close quarters and when presented with a opening, he will not hesitate to take a punch to land one. With his granite chin and his deadly left hand,he is a tough nut to crack for anybody in the welterweight division.

Prediction:
Stylistically this is a tantalising match up.Guerrero and Garcia share many of the same weaknesses. Both lack foot speed and both are troubled by fighters with movement. Fortunately for them, neither is a great mover.Garcia perhaps has the edge in speed and power but Guerrero has the reach. Guerrero's style is to come forward and use his timing and accuracy combined with aggression to submit his opponents. Garcia is a boxer puncher. He has power in both hands and likes to counter his opponents and rip the body with hooks. While both guys are comfortable on the inside, Guerrero may find more familiarity there than Garcia, who tends to be vulnerable there at times.Despite both possessing power I cannot see either man having enough to finish the other. If Guerrero is to win this fight, he will have to deploy the jab to back Garcia up and then look to land on the inside. Garcia has a tendency to swing with his punches, so getting on the inside and deploying short punches will be key for Guerrero. Garcia has been troubled when he has been backed up, Guerrero will have to absorb punches but if he can be aggressive and back Garcia up, he will have him in trouble. In his recent loss to Keith Thurman,Guerrero allowed Thurman to set the pace so it is critical that he dictates it in this fight. In the other corner, the jab is also crucial weapon for Garcia.Guerrero is a durable fighter whilst Danny has faded late on, so going to the body early will be key. Garcia will need to keep Guerrero where he wants him with the jab and then look to counter the southpaw when he gets the chance.Garcia excels when he gets into a rhythm, if he can keep Guerrero guessing and not allow him to gain forward momentum he will come out the victor.

This is a tough fight for both guys but I'd favour Danny Garcia in this one. Garcia has shown he can handle various styles and the left hook against a southpaw should give him success. Guerrero is as tough as they come so there will be moments in this fight where Garcia will have to bite down hard but if he uses his jab and ring generalship, he should come out on top.Guerrero isn't the same fighter he was a few years ago but he realises he may not get many more opportunities at the top, which makes him a dangerous opponent. However,I think Danny Garcia should have enough to win via a competitive unanimous decision.
