this sets up my next question.
If we had a full strength team tomorrow, who would uou drop and would you pick.
smalling and shaw/cbj will come straight into defence but I believe varela has done enough to earn the rb spot.

in midfield i'll keep the morgan herrera axis

mempphis stays on the left,
rashford up front - he gives us the movement we lack in rooney
Martial still our best attacker but I will experiment with him on the right

the biggest dilema is rooney/mata for #10 or neither. I will personally prefer one of carrick/bastian in midfield with herrera as a psueo #10/#8

Play 442, Rashford and Martial upfront, Memphis on the left, and a workhorse like Lingard on the right.

I diagree, herrera plays better further back. He has a some bite to him and is better box to box rather than at #10. Plus he plays well with Mata so it's best to keep him on the pitch. despite the resurgence of form prior to injury Rooney should be dropped, no question about it.

Rashford is showing rooney how to lead the line. His hold up play is better than anything we saw from rooney this season, plus he is Pacier, runs the channels and runs in behind. We badly missed this from our strikers this season

looks like rooney's injury will solve the striker issue for the rest of the season, i guess it will be 4 from 5 upfront (lingard, mata, martial, memphis, rashford)...at the moment i think you'd probably drop lingard, though that would be a little harsh.

i'll tell you who probably is feeling a little deflated at the moment, and that's keane...

I think Mata will have to make way. Lingards offers the work rate down the right to allow Varela to push forward. Varela and Mata on the right will be pretty terrible defensively

i'd have mata in the middle and martial on the right, memphis stays on the left, rashford stays up front.

It could work, Although Martial looked pretty average whenever he played on the right.

Id play Rashford and Martial upfront, Memphis on the left, and Lingard on the right. IMO it offers pace on the wings for counter while providing cover for FBs, Although Theyll probably struggle against teams that parks the bus
