Özil is just like Messi

This is the view of Barcelona goalkeeper Ter Stegen.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3493352/Arsenal-star-Mesut-Ozil-just-like-Lionel-Messi-says-Marc-Andre-ter-Stegen-warns-Barcelona-beware-playmaker.html

Tomorrow, Ozil returns to the site of one of his biggest triumphs, the Nou Camp. It was there, in April 2012, that the World Cup-winner played a sublime 40-yard through-ball which secured the La Liga title for Real Madrid.

We will certainly need him to be at his best vs Barca, in order to achieve what would be the most shocking turnaround in Champions League history.

One positive for Arsenal heading into Mission Impossible is that the German maestro has a good head-to-head record vs Messi.

Ozil beat Messi at two World Cups; QF in 2010 and the Final in 2014, outperforming him in both games.

He also beat Messi in a title-deciding La Liga game in Messi's house, a Copa Final and a Supercopa.

But he lost to Messi in the CL SFs in 2011. Maybe tomorrow he beats him in the CL for the first time?

Ozil IS just like Messi. If Messi scored like 40 less goals a season and was nowhere near as good as he is.

Messi has the greatest vision in the world but Özil is probably the closest in fact he's almost level but Messi's execution is a lot better although I'd love to see Mesut alongside similar quality in movement.

Messi is the best forward and #10 in football absolutely no shame in that, having these criteria's in 1 is why he's the GOAT.

Ter Stegen's quotes have logic to it though Mesut can turn a game on it's head with a pass. He did it on various occasions on the weekend unfortunately his teammates are poor (still got a quality assist).

Re: Castor's comment I wouldn't say Messi is stronger but he has far greater balance people confuse the 2.

Same way you could think Aguero is strong but it's more tremendous balance whereas someone like Suarez is stronger than Kun despite the knack to go down easier.

Anyway Özil is currently better than anyone Barca have behind that front 3 and we'll need him if we're to maintain any kind of pride 2moro

creator, that's statistically proven - he's miles better statistically, beyond any margin of error.

No it isn't. Messi is usually the top chance creator in Europe.

Wow, im usually of the sentiment that everyone is entitled to their opinion, but OP has taken deluded to new heights.

Messi is probably the best playmaker there around and hes not even a no10. He trounces Ozil in all departments, im struggling to think of one that he doesnt. Ability and mentally a no. of levels ahead OP please crawl under a rock.

Kind regards

I took the term deluded to new heights?

It was Ter Stegen that raised the comparison

Let's not forget that Özil did beat Messi at not one, but two World Cups.

That can't be true.

Chances created in Top 5 leagues 2008-15 (per Opta):

Ozil - 637
Silva - 554
Payet - 551
Mata - 544
Hazard - 539
Xavi - 517
Messi - 512
Totti - 496

That was before this season, where Ozil is top so far, so his lead over the rest will be even bigger now.

OP, could you provide an actual external link for those stats - something more specific than writing Opta in brackets.

Reason I asked is that I've tried to find references on my own through Google, but all I've found are a couple of ja606 articles written by you.

Cheers.

It was a graphic Sky Sports put up on the opening day of the season, before the Arsenal-West Ham game, where Ozil & Payet went head-to-head.

A few people tweeted screenshots of the graphic, here's a link to one:
