Coming above Spurs

It was a good end to a crap season. But why are former players saying you shouldn't be happy finishing above Spurs and instead vent anger at not winning the title? All season everyone has been fuming for not having enough to win the league, but the one little laugh we get to have, we apparently shouldn't. Finishing above Spurs will always be a laugh and something to cheer about. Why? Because they are our rivals, and in recent years they've closed down the gap which makes all this more intense. Especially after the season they had, it makes it even sweeter.

Yes Arsenal fans and staff should be angry for not winning the league, but that doesn't take away the right to celebrate St.Tottingham's day. In fact that's the only damn positive all season

Its not something to properly celebrate. But it is still very funny. All season we heard how marvellous spurs were, and how it was certain they'd finish above us, because we were so terrible (which we were), but yet we still finish above spurs!

Not something to celebrate, as we had a poor season. But it certainly is something to laugh about. Nothing wrong with that.

I mean we do finish above them almost every season, don't get me wrong it's funny but at this point I honestly don't care about Spurs when we're stuck in Groundhog Day.

It's not gloating it's laughing.

If, as an Arsenal fan (or any type of football fan that isn't Spurs), you don't find what happened on Sunday hilarious, then you are into the wrong game.

The reason why Arsenal shouldn't be happy and gloating about finishing above Tottenham is that you do that every year, however this year it was a lot closer than the many times you finished above us. This means that either we are getting better or you're getting worse, so ex players are completely right in what they are saying. Whilst our standards are rising yours are not.

Pretty much the same situation as in 2006 - 10 years ago!
Not to mention the Mind The Gap part 1 and part 2.

Surely this is not a serious question is it? Who gives a flying duck about spurs?? They are insignificant so no way on earth should we as a club be celebrating like we did about finishing above them. I mean really, do you gloat to your spurs friends (i know I know) about finishing above them? A club as big as ours should be fighting for the trophies and losing out to clubs as big or bigger. The loss vs watford hurt. Getting knocked out in the CL with barely a whimper hurts. Spurs and them being our geographical rivals...yes i like to beat them, but they are a tier below us so we should be beating them. I'd take an FA cup and 3rd over a trophy less season and second above Spurs. Years later, people remember the teams who won the trophies...not where they finished in the league table compared to their rivals.

Think you take it all a bit too serious, MaineGunner.

Football is meant to be enjoyed - even if it is little things that give you a bit of light relief.

Yes of course I gloat over my Spurs supporting friends (and brothers). For sure they have been gloating loudly for a long time. Banter is a large part of social life, and this is certainly something to laugh at them about.

Comes from being competitive I enjoy the game and play on leagues. Could play it just for fun, but I enjoy the feeling of accomplishment. I do get how funny it was to watch spurs implode, but I am more concerned about why we were in the situation to begin with. The draws to palace, West ham and Sunderland were crushing. I guess I feel the way I do because on paper, we have a great squad. But on the field, the sum is often less than the parts and that has been the case for a while. I have more fun gloating to my man utd friend than to my spurs one. Spurs has become a stale joke ha whereas with utd, it was not too long ago that he could mock me. And if they win the FA cup, it will be unbearable for a few days.

Being consumed with things in the past and that you cannot have any influence in preventing in the future seems rather a waste of time, and a miserable way to live.

Go on, have a laugh at the Spurs. It will make you feel better. And it won't mean you think Arsenal have had a great season!!

If you read the comments like Ian Wrights it is a thinly veiled pop at Totteringham. He says things like their fans used to do stuff like that to Arsenal when he played and they finished above us. We are above that sort of thing. He also referred to them a small club and said being that worried about finishing above them was a small club mentality luke they have. He basically said Arsenal should be above that because they are insignificant.
