Remember when we had Nani

He'd be our best winger. Ridiculous that we sacked him off for £3m.

Also Pogba is sheet

I took pleasure in Portugal winning.

So did I. But you seem to have taken no pleasure in, nor seen an merit in, 'zero talent, utter trash' Lingard's winning goal in the FA Cup final.

I'm glad it won the game and it was a good goal, he is however trash.

I know the conversation has moved on a bit from the OP but there's been some absolute sh*te about Nani on this thread.

He literally had one good season out of the seven he was with us, but now he's done well in the Portuguese and Turkish league and we were wrong to sell him because he was such a top player?

Signing for Valencia is a bit like playing for Stoke (who were linked with him) or Swansea or someone, it's not a big deal or "proof" that we should of kept him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He had plenty of good seasons.

He had one where he was top class

He's always been better than Valencia and Young
------------------------

He really didn't. He had 6 months where he was top class. The rest was flashes of brilliance, mixed in with lots of frustration. Overall he was average.

In his best season he managed 9 goals and 14 assists in the PL. Ashley Young in his best PL season managed 8 goals and 17 assists - and that was playing for Villa! So he hasn't always been better than Young has he? To be honest, those two and Valencia are much of a muchness. Valencia is a better defender though.

How about his goal at Stamford Bridge?

Our very best, most successful teams have included squad players who weren't better than Lingard. And in those glorious CL-winning seasons there were fans who moaned about the existence of non-world-class players in their team.

And yet Young scored more goals assisted more goals than Nani during his stay in the PL. And that is including his time with Aston Villa, whilst Nani was playing his trade for United. Crazy huh?

Wow, Nani is clearly better than Young. one was just the second best player for the European Champions, the other was nowhere near making the English squad that went out in the round of 16.

One was bombed out of United for not being good enough, the other wasn't.

Remember that time that Karel Poborsky was one of the best players at the Euros? That went well didn't it?

If Nani is/was clearly better than Young, how did Young manager to outscore and out-assist Nani during the latter's time in the PL?

As I said earlier, they are much of a muchness. Neither really good enough for United.

Nani is way better than Young and any other winger Man Utd had last season aside from Martial. He was a very good player for Man Utd for years and for a couple of years or so was the best winger in the league. Even when Man Utd sold him I still thought he was a good player on his day, just wasn't given a fair chance to play consistently.

Young didn't really play as a winger last season though did he? But I do take the point that Nani is probably better as a winger than Young now, who has had has injury problems. However, Nani hasn't always been the better player and the fact that his best season in the PL was better than Nani's best in the PL (returns wise) despite playing for a weaker team supports that. As does the fact that he scored more and assisted more than Nani during the same period. As does the fact that he was retained at United when Nani was sold. Nani would likely have had a better return than any of our wide options last season other than Martial, but that isn't really saying much. He simply wasn't/isn't good enough for United.
