I will be surprised if Alistair Cook lasts very long in this role. The selectors couldn't have come up with a more unsuitable choice.
His batting style is not suited to this format and he's hardly one of England's best fielders.
Morgan has been very busy recently on self promotion, giving interviews that England have a lot of to improve, which for someone who has only been in the set-up for 5 minutes is pretty arrogant.
Tendulkar is the most technically correct batsman in the Indian team and opens, Bell is the most technically correct batsman in the England team and should open.
How long will Cook last as ODI captain?

He wasn't so shy when he disputed the catch in the T20 the other day.

That was a general comment from me crazy.... I guess strauss can play for another 4 years if he wants and is performing well. I would want matt prior to be your captain after strauss goes simply becuase it wont affect any top order/middle order batsman.

BTW how many people think prior can be a good option? It would be something worth trying as this means 6 batsman at the top would only have to concentrate fully on their batting.....

i agree with you on that one hopeforthebest.

maybe viruda, i think prior would make a decent captain, but i think broad would be far more agressive, if we are counting out cook.

jezzer----The thing of making a bowler a captain, is if a bowler out of form, then that makes it hard for the whole team as you cannot then leave out a bowler/captain. Just imagine if broad went wicketless in test match and also gave away runs, your team will not be able to replace him in the whole series.... for a batsman, you can say if he fails 4-5times, you can risk by giving him one more chance as their other 6 batsman to come.... In terms of bowling if one fails you will only have 3 more left, and by any chance if he gets injured in test match then the team is in trouble......

that is true, but maybe broad might have become an allrounder in 4 years time, in which case he could bat himself at 7 and put in four proper bowlers, or put bresnan at 7 still having 5 bowlers.

ok yh thats a different way to look at it.... If broad builds up on this status he would be the perfect candidate....

Having an opening batsman as captain is ideal as if he's out early, there's still 10 batsmen left to score the runs.

People have different styles in tests and one days, cool will tale on more shots in one day because he has too. And let's be honest, has he put a foot wrong yet at all? He certainly can score at a very quick rate and hit a 6 tonight... This article was written at the wrong time, whilst Cook is the best batsman in the entire world.
