After yet another dismal performance from Our Wee Country the knives are being sharpened, polished and targeted for Nigel Worthington.
Its obvious to one and all that his days are numbered and the IFA need to be actively seeking a replacement immediately.
Negative tactics, glaring omissions from the squad, lack of “bite", lack of motivation, and loss of confidence within the team are just some of the accusations that can be made today.
The Players must take a large percentage of the blame. I am totally fed up of people always faulting a Manager when basic mistakes from seasoned pros are costing us dearly.
Amongst a few I would slaughter would be players like Chris Brunt, top professional and apparently being coveted by top premiership clubs. One of the laziest so and sos ever to put on a green shirt and needing a good kick up the hole.
Scandalous comments from Lawrie Sanchez this morning, a man who walked out on us, and has failed miserably ever since.
As for this man returning to manage the team - I’m sorry Mr Sanchez, but I’m out.
There are only a few people who I believe would want this difficult job, and could cope with it.
To be honest, the tools (pun intended by the way) he has to work with are not up to standard but we have the basis of a team that could achieve more than we have in the last few years.
My own personal choice would be Jim Magilton.
A decent Footballer and Manager, who played and managed the right way - playing football on the ground.
Whether he could motivate this squad is debatable, but then Alex Ferguson and Pep Guardiola would struggle with this lot. His communication skills are not the best and an interpreter may be required, but I would offer him the job to take us through the next World Cup grouping.
Could do no worse, surely
Earl, the once again despondent
PS – Well done to the Republic of Ireland and Scotland, and hope that at least one can join England in the finals.

Have to say. I totally agree with you here on all front. I was talking about it with a friend, and we agreed that the best person for the job would be Magilton.
Well- apart from Liam Beckett...... :D

Who would actually want the NIreland job is the question?

There are plenty of managers who this job will be of interest to when eventually advertised
- Take Note Sanchez "WHEN ADVERTISED" !!
Worthington is on £400,000 per year.
I'll do it for 1/2 that

Not when the fans have "unrealistic" ambitions.
A lot of NIreland fans seem to foolishly believe that they have a squad of players who are capable of actually qualifying for major tournaments.
A reality check is badly needed

I dont think NI fan's expectations have been too unrealistic. Obviously they had some great wins under Sanchezand that raised the bar; but the main problem I am hearing is that they dont like the conservative football played under Worhtington......am I right?
Would you be happy losign to Serbia, but playing some lovely football and scoring a couple of goals (not more than the opposition though....cos then you would win).

You're listening to too many wums Richard.
The vast majority of us dont expect qualification, but do expect more than has been offered this campaign.
We have an OK 1st team but absolutely no back up. One or two injuries/suspensions and we are Frair Tucked.
Dublondain, everyone would like to win like Barcelona, and at times we do need to be conservative/defensive.
But not every game !!
Its hard to watch all the time
Scraping a 1-0 win or 0-0 draw when we dont deserve to is a nice feeling also.

Thats one thing I love about being Irish we are so optimistic lol........................
The ROI fans avoid being thumped 4 or 5 nil by Russia purely down to luck and Shay Given and you would think they are contenders to win Euro 2012 lol.....................
The glass is always half full with us guys lol...................

I don't know which ROI fans you have been talking to but i personally don't know any who would be foolish enough to think we are actually contenders for Euro 2012 !!!!!!
Good enough to qualify yes definitely. Did you actually see the match v Russia.
We stopped the Russians from scoring due to every Irish player especially Dunne and Given defending with every ounce of energy in their bodies. There was no "luck" involved. Given saved point blank shots , Dunne put the tackles in and stopped the Russians getting shots on goals. Heroes the both of them

He is a man in need of a reality check lol..................
Well his name is Richard lol......................

Traps you will notice Given saved point blank shots fired directly at him!!
A yard either side...............

So because he saved point blank shots it takes something away from his acheivement!!! What a bizzare observation.
