England shambles - changes needed

What a sorry sight to wake up to. I thought England should be able to muster the runs to make India bat again, but my little confidence in watching some cricket evaporated rather quickly.

Didn't India score a few hundred for their last 4 wickets???

Anyway, some major changes needed. To the squad, management and, dare I say, captain.

Let's start with those at the top. England have so much money behind them. So many 'hangers on' and this is the best they can do? No fight whatsoever. Happy with scoring 400 runs on a pitch that they could, and should, have got at least 500 runs. They don't want to tough it out enough and score when the bowling side are tired.

So start off by getting rid of some of the personnel that helped create this messy situation. Look at the Bayliss and decide whether he's been good for England or not. Maybe look for an Englishman with some pride. Someone who really doesn't like to get beat.

Moving on to the captain. Cook far too often, looks clueless. Maybe his bowlers aren't good enough, but he seems bereft of good ideas. Root would be my choice as captain. Probably England's best batsman, even though his scores haven't shown it. He does have a problem in looking good and then getting out. Let's just hope that's a short term issue.

Moving on to the team. Let's get rid of Rashid to start with. He's just not good enough at this level. I'm not sure he will ever be good enough. And his batting, which helps class him as an allrounder, has been woeful.

Stokes, for all his talent, has been another let down with bat and ball. He's done nowt to show why he should be retained. Let him knuckle down in county cricket and come back again.

Moeen is another disappointment but, if he's England's best spinner, then they have to stick with him. And he does seem to score a half century every few tests.

The top order has seemingly fallen into place a bit by accident. I think everyone would be happy enough with a top four of Cook, Haseeb, Jennings, Root. Number 5 is a tricky slot to fill. Would you go with Moeen, Bairstow or Buttler?

I think I'd plump for Bairstow as he seems to be in better consistent form than Moeen and I'd have Buttler at 6. Buttler has shown that he can grit it out and he's got a couple of scores in the tests he's played on this trip. He should have been in the starting XI from the getgo.

Moeen can slot in at 7. But if a better spinner comes along, Moeen can wave his slot goodbye.

Then you have 4 bowlers. In England, I'd definitely go with (if fit) Anderson, Broad, Wood and possibly Woakes. No place for a 2nd spinner at all. Root can trundle through a few overs if need be, but that's it.

On Asian pitches, then you may need that 2nd spinner or a canny medium pacer that can bowl cutters and the like.

But things need to change. This wasn't a series to get humiliated in but, by golly, England are doing it.

Nothing wrong with Bell, his form went to pot when he was shifted up the order. his best place in test cricket is no5 so pop him there. I know who id rather have outta him and Ali and England need abit of experience in the middle.

ha what main changes?? there like 5 at least. brainless.. as for Kohli playing well in England he wont.. Because like I said England will bowl such a good line of off stumping he will knick a lot to the slips.. Infact the entire Indian batting will come under so much pressure they wont be able to attack without getting out..

This is not the same Kohli that turned up to england 4 years ago. He has improved greatly and i actually think that tour made work even harder.

Can players who had bad tours previously not improve and bounce back? Root did it in Aus why not Kohli in England?

Hes also done it in Aus/SA and NZ who maybe he just had a bad patch of form, it happens.

Dude ru loosing ur mind? U think Kohli can't improve in England next time? Have u seen his record in Aus, SA, New-Zealand? Every player in history of cricket goes through lean patches in his career! U also crying on one umpire decision whereas I can bring ten more like that against India. Now you going back 90 yrs shows your intelligence.. I don't want to waste anymore time but news flash for u pal; England never won the World Cup(Odis) in the history of cricket. Now go vent ur rage in ur basement with ur buddies!

Bringing Bell back would be a mistake. He wasn't good enough for two years, and though he may still be better than Duckett, has age against him.

Everyone seems to be blaming Rashid but hes got 22 wickets and avarages 32 which lets face it is not too bad. England dont have another bowler who has ten wickets.

Seemers have been poor as well but hardly any mention about them.

Talk of Cook resigning the captaincy, even before the final test.

Ain't gonna happen before the final Test and I seriously doubt it'll happen soon after it. He shouldn't stay on too much longer though.

Needs a new man in there soon...he's a class act batsman and needs to concentrate on that

Time for cook to fall on his sword and give root the job. Wouldn't guarantee his place in the team as Jennings/hameed look the long term opening partnership. Need to go back to basics. Too many bits and pieces players in the team. Need 5 proper batsmen, all rounder at 6, wkt keeper 7 and 4 bowlers. Also pick the best spin option. It's not moeen that's for sure. If it's leach pick him and stop worrying if he can bat or not. The end may be in sight for broad and Anderson too.
