boxing day game memories

what are your memories of wolves boxing day games ?

one i wont forget was villa away around 65 or 66
a villa fan i worked with asked me to take him so off we went him on the back of my norton. as this was just in the pre-hooligan days i went with him to where he normally stood, obviously all around were villa but there was never trouble in those days ... usually !
predictably wolves scored , i cheered .... and the biggest villa fan for yards around took exception and pushed his way through towards me.when he got to me he thumped me on the chest so hard i swear every bone in my body shook.
instead of finishing me off he stood back to admire his work .... which gave me chance to throw the best punch ive ever thrown. i caught him with an upercut right on the jaw and the great lump went down just like cassius clay did from henry cooper a couple of years before,
i was thinking that when he got up he would batter me but when he did he just mumbled " or roite mate " and ambled off !

Before my time but the best ever Wolves team must have been a joy to watch, none more so than Xmas 1958. On Boxing Day they went to Portsmouth and won 5-3, then Pompey were at Molineux two days later with Wolves winning 7-0.

They went on to win the league for the second season running and in the final 17 games of the season scored 55 goals. Those were the days my friend

Pfft but they didnt set the record for most points in League 1.

The game against Rotherham (6-4) was my lads first ever match whereas mine was a 0-0 against Luton in 1995.

Dont have too many memories of Boxing day games, thin we snatched a win against Reading last year and got stuffed by Peterborough one year.

I didnt go but watched the Liverpool away game on telly when Wardy got the winner, think that was 26 or 27th.

Remember a news years day game in Div 4 when a decent crowd showed up, many of which clearly hadn't been for a few years. More than one shouting "whoooo" when the teams were read out, and "where's Parkin?" Hilarious.

I was at that game too but it wasnt boxing day. I dont remember much being 8 at the time apart from Keith Curle scoring an own goal which made me feel really dissappointed haha

Was it not Boxing Day?

Remember being cajoled into going in the pub on Xmas Day.

Must have been the game in between Xmas and New Year.

We beat Oxford at home on Boxing day that year, played Bolton on the 18th Jan:

Remember a New Year's Day game against Cardiff when Molineux was in its lowest decrepit state before being modernised. Far more people turned up than expected and it was complete chaos outside the turnstiles where the queues just turned into one mass of people and inside where every gangway was jammed solid. Went with four friends but we got split up in the melee outside the ground and didn't find each other until in the pub after the game

Spurs 2-2 West Ham mid 80's

Spent every Christmas and New Year in London or Essex from late 70's to late 80's so took in games on Boxing Day and New Year.

The violence at Spurs, Hammers and Chelsea games was intense and widespread but they were proper hoolies who respected the rules.

The atmosphere at these games (the fixture list threw up derby fixtures in those days) was electric. These days, it's all so sterile and has been since I stopped going regularly in the 00's.
