48 Team World Cup

Looks like it might become a reality this week to start from the 2026 World Cup.

How it will work is this..

Round 1 - 16 teams of 3 with two teams to go through
Round 2 - 32 team knockout stage
Round 3 - 16 team knockout stage
Quarter finals
Semi finals
Final

So a max of 7 games played, just as in a 32 team World Cup.

Lots of controversy about the move but I like it. The more teams involved the more of a 'World Cup' it is.

Anyone else like the idea?

they should just fack the qualifiers and have a pure knockout world cup for all FIFA members (no group stage)

What happens if you go out in the first round? No more matches for 4 years?

I'd like it loads of ko football which is the most exciting and better chance for roi to qualify

The Euros weren't great tbh, there was only one winner yet countless victory parades held only because the goalposts were widened allowing a generous passage to the ko rounds.

This should reduce qualifying fixtures in Europe which should in turn reduce international breaks?

Great idea, all for extending the World Cup.
