Honest question ahead of the game

Ahead of the game, there's been lots of combined 11's online (all v.controversial) and always the cause of much debate.

Now IMO, it doesn't bother me who's team gets more into a combined 11, there's Liverpool players that could make united squad and visa versa. The manager makes a huge difference and the table/trophies is all that matters.

What I wanted to ask, and specifically to Liverpool (and England) fans is your thoughts on Carrick vs Henderson. For me, Hendo is a great player who brings alot to a team but I wouldn't consider him one of your best players.

On the flip, I would say carrick is hugely important to us as the way he can set the tempo and control games is unique. Since 2014 we've won 60% of games with him and 38% without, this season of the 12 he's started we've won 10, drawn 2 (don't have the counter stats for Hendo).

From a guy sat on his sofa in his slippers thinking about the game, I wanted to get your thoughts on both of them. Would either make your combined 11 in a midfield 3? This is not a petty, my clubs better than yours (that's saved for 4pm so please give your honest thoughts about the pair.

Maybe think of it as an England team if that helps because for this thread, I couldnt care less about combined 11's or other players.

Cheers

So you wouldn't put one ahead of the other if you had to choose?

Carrick the classier of the two.

Hendo more underrated, he's definitely one of our most important players this season.

I don't think either player has done themselves justice internationally or in big games.

Carrick of course has big longevity and the medals.Yet to be seen whether Henderson will have either.

Don't think there's that much between them at their best, different types as Carrick a stroller whereas Henderson is more all action, but similar sort of standard (I know this will offend many Carrick fans who think he is amazing and Henderson is terrible).

Thanks for your sensible contribution. I agree about the international stage, there's not many that I would say do well for England so maybe that's harsh on the pair.

Do you think Liverpool would miss him as much as United with Carrick? I think hendo offers a lot of balance and brilliant stamina/workrate that's ideal for Klopp but think you'd find that easier to replace than us.

Carrick is a decent player doing a role which many do very late in their careers. Keep the ball moving and switch the play. His done it his whole career however. Effective as long as you have two creative players playing in midfield with him.

Henderson is going from strength to strength. Had the captaincy thrust upon him too early in my opinion bit has done a good job with it. He still has improvement in him. I find he dominates games when we are expected to have most of the ball but can't quite put a similar stamp on games, like today, when we aren't. Perhaps because he's asked to do the lesser role, the Carrick role of just keeping the ball moving and switching play, when we need to be less adventurous against the better sides.

Difficult to say really.

We definitely missed him last season when he was out of form/injured.

We have Can who can play the deep role that Henderson has been well, but he's not as mobile and his passing is more erratic, young player still learning his trade. Lucas isn't in the same class in terms of energy and mobility but has natural defensive nous that Henderson has had to learn (and seems to have got to grips with it this season).

Whether we miss him more than you seem to when Carrick doesn't play I couldn't really answer.

Carrick >>≥>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Henderson.

As this discussion was far too civilised!

Carrick is finished at international level.
No comparable with future England captain Henderson in the slightest, in part to the fact one is 25, and the other is 36.
Club wise, Carrick does a job shifting the ball left to right, but doesnt have the industry of Henderson.

The main point for Carrick for me is that he has always been professional. By that I mean he's never tried to showboat. He's more akin to John Terry than Hendo for me. Of the two, Jordan is more crucial to our game than Carrick is.
