Canelo vs Chavez Jr confirmed!!

Just when we thought golden boy promotions couldn't sink lower, they outdo themselves by making possibly the most farcical of fights in boxing at the moment. Canelo vs Chavez Jr has been confirmed for May 6 at a catch weight of 164.5 lbs. There is a rematch clause if Chavez Jr wins and a lbs clause that fines Chavez Jr $1 million for every lb he is over the weight limit.

Canelo has been reluctant to go up to 160lbs with his team citing his lack of size as the main inhibitor yet it seems miraculously he can suddenly make the weight Not only has he gone up to 160lbs but he has gone beyond it.

Chavez Jr had potential to be a decent fighter but his lack of discipline and dedication have cost him. Desperation however will push a man to insanity and it's that reasoning that has led him to sign up for this fight. The last time Chavez made 160 was 2012 and since then he has campaigned at super middleweight and light heavyweight. Considering his lack of focus and drive, I cannot see him making 164.5 and if he does, his body will be so drained that Canelo might actually seriously harm him in the ring.

Now, from a business stand point, this is a big money fight for Mexican fans. The two most notable current Mexican boxers going toe to toe on a Mexican holiday is a must watch event. Taking into account that both men fight a fan friendly style, I expect these two to slug it out, which could prove to be entertaining IF, Chavez Jr can get himself dialled in.

Thoughts on the fight and the match up??
