Expectations this season

What did people expect Jose to achieve with United this season and how far away from achieving it is he?

Personally I expected an improvement in our style of play, a top 3 finish and a decent run in the cups. I think those expectations are reasonable.

Now, whilst I'm as disappointed as anyone with last nights result, we arent a millions miles away from achieving what I expected come the end of the season.

So what is with the huge downer on Jose right now?

Does Jose still tell you he'd leave his wife for you Wahl?

Nah but your mom tells me she'll leave your dad for me.

Knew you were from the US wahl, 'mom' indeed.

Nah I'm English, just always used mom instead of mum. And I'm not gay I just really really respect Mourinho. He's been my hero since I was a kid.

Chelsea 2012 was a massive fluke, they were dire. Nothing to do with sacrificing a good league campaign.
And anyway, Liverpool missed out on top 4 in 05. Madrid missed out on top 4 in 00. It happens from time to time. Nothing to do with a team having a good league campaign 'cos they're not in Europe though.

Liverpool last season made two cup finals. Maybe that should tell you they're strong enough to put in a challenge.

Chelsea with a very similar squad walked the league two years ago. Maybe that should tell you they're strong enough to put in a challenge.

And anyhow Wahl, isn't it a contradiction to say they missed out last year because of how strong the league's become, and at the same time say Leicester won it because it was an awfully poor season (when trying to justify Mourinho vs LvG)?

Elvis - it's a fair question Elvis. I have already explained that I expected a top 3 finish. Not for us to win league league title.

Hard on for RDD

Did I lie RRD? No I didn't. So don't start making things up because you have been pulled up. By the way, it wasn't even me that pulled you on it.

I didn't lie or say others had lied did I?

Oh whoops, only just seen this, sorry it's bronly.

I mean, I don't think it's as black and white as what you've said. The league has been stronger in some ways and weaker in other ways for the last few years (I think this season has been different btw).

It's stronger in the sense that a lot of mid table teams are better to the point where they can a) take points regularly off the top teams and b) actually find the consistency to finish above the top teams like Southampton did last season to be above both Liverpool and Chelsea. In the past, maybe 10 years ago, I think Liverpool and Chelsea would have finished 6th and 7th last season even though they were poor domestically but they couldn't do that last season. West Ham, Southampton and I think Stoke finished above those two.

And the league was also weaker in that the top teams like Liverpool and Chelsea, but even both Manchester teams weren't as good as they should have been. Even though the mid table teams were better, they shouldn't have dropped as many points and all 4 of those teams had poor seasons last year.

Lester won the league because they took advantage of the big teams having not great seasons and found more consistency than all of them could manage. In terms of why Lester didn't struggle against the stronger mid table teams, I think especially in the first half of the season a lot of teams underestimated Lester and didn't treat them as a big team, meaning they could get points more easily against some teams that the big teams could.

Wahl, haven't done the breakdown vs each particular side, but Leicester got more points in the 2nd half of the season (42) than they did in the first (39).

Is there a rule that stops us improving too?

It's bronly, well they had momentum in more ways than one in the second half of the season (I know for example Lester got a few lucky decisions from referees towards the end of the season) and even though they were first, teams didn't really set up against Lester like they would against Arsenal or Man City.
