Rapier and Cutlass

In the past I have been a bit rude about Andy Williams, and I have suggested that there is no obvious understanding between him and John Marquis when they playing as a strike pair. Wrong. True, they are not Clarke/Jones, Jeffrey/Sheffield or Shearer/Sutton but, even so, they are currently more than cutting the mustard. To me Williams (the rapier) is a scorer of great goals whereas Marquis (the cutlass) is a great goal scorer. Given Marquis's relentless harrying style of play you would expect him to make room for Williams to score goals but, funnily enough, in the recent games that I have seen it is Williams who is constantly being hacked to the ground by opposing central defenders leaving space for Marquis. Needless to say, at present both are being well served by a solid defence and some wonderful creative midfield support. Let's hope it continues and we don't have another wobbly February.

Interesting that you should write about our front two albie.
After the first three or four games of the season i posted on the vsc that i thought that Marquis and Williams were showing signs of making a really good front two.
A few people scoffed at the suggestion, saying that they were too much alike to be successful.
It seems as though they have come good though and i think that once Williams scores his next goal it will be a big monkey off his back and he too will go on a scoring run, much the same as Marquis is doing right now.

Apparently the Morecambe players haven't been paid so today might be the day for Williams to fill his boots.
