Back at University

Just moved in my digs and got settled down ready for the term ahead.
I've been going through my budget plan and its going to be tighter than ever, so I am thinking of buying a road bike for the 7.5mile journey to save on bus fares,(also get toned up)
I reckon I could afford £100 to £250 max for bike and am not bothered if it is pre-loved either, What should I be looking out for for a decent Uni-Cycle?

Definitely buy a decent second hand bike - for that budget a new bike wont be that useful. My suggestion would be ebay something about £100-150 and then get a good service with the change. I would also recommend a mountain bike for durability but i must confess im biased that way!

Its just been delivered I got it on E-bay its gonna need more than a service though !!!! Jees!!!!
Its got ONE WHEEL and NO BRAKES!!!!!
Am gonna look like a right clown going to Uni on it!!
Thats if I can even get on the thing!! The SEAT is 5ft HIGH!!!!
Thankyou for your advice "Voiceofreason" NOT

If anybody has an old bike in their garage that they would like to donate to a poor ripped off badly advised studant please get in touch.

Is this a wind up? Or are you really that thick? I cannot believe anyone would pay for a bike with only one wheel. It is unspeakably stupid to pay for a bike youve not seen, i take no responsibilty for your naivety. That said I do have a spare bike, meet you at Sydney opera house next Thursday?

No its not a wind up I went on E-bay like you advised but I think I made a mistake on the search because I typed in "Uni-cycle" and the rest is historyI was in a rush and did'nt read the description with a fine tooth comb.
Anyways its back on E-bay now I just need some other clown to buy it so I can get a decent bike with two wheels.

Update: Thankyou voice of reason

Well I had no takers for it and it was just gathering dust sat in the corner I was doing my Christmas budget and It was'nt looking good at all,I was skint.
Suddenly I looked at the bike and had a notion!!!!!! KERCHING!!!!!
I was going to learn to the ride the silly thing if it killed me and with my juggling skills which I learned at circus workshop in school hols and become a street entertainer
I bought a new saddle 2 foot instead of the original 5 foot one next I needed a place to practise out of site and undercover so late at night I would put the thing in the boot and head of to my local multi-storey car park, fantastic I cracked it after a week proper chuffties.
Anyway to cut a long story short I am rakeing it in!!
I could kiss you "voice of reason" I'm gonna have the best Christmas ever, I'm gonna be so minted I'm gonna have enough wonga to buy a top of the range bike to get to "uni"
Talk about full circle????

Anyway if anybody has any info my question is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"What should I be looking for, "for a decent uni cycle"

Happy Christmas everybody

P.S. Update
Today I am going to give the 5 foot saddle a go
