20 years ago this year I witnessed one of the most appalling refereeing displays ever.
Do any of you remember it? Filbert Street; Leicester v Atletico Madrid. Garry Parker sent off for not taking a free kick correctly, Muzzy Izzett denied at least 3 stonewall penalties and our brief foray into Europe came to an ignominious end due to the performance of the referee Remi Harrel. He was quietly disposed of by UEFA after that display I believe.
Fast forward 20 years wouldn’t it be great to draw Atletico and right a few wrongs? Other more positive memories from that UEFA cup tie, Pontuus man-marking Juninho and Marshall’s goal in Madrid.
I would love it if we drew them again.

Remember it well, at least UEFA sacked him immediately afterwards.
Like Tom Ovrebo who Chelsea had in I believe a semi final,and Urs Maier England were robbed by against Portugal.All were games that for what ever reason it was as though the ref was only going to allow one team to win.
All three officials never reffed at that level again,they should all have been investigated to see exactly what went on.
As have said before ,think In time it may turn out that certain refs in English leagues have had more influence on games than we realise.
For what ever reason too many games ,maybe about a third,are decided by the performance of the officials.

Also remember it well. Remember MON's interview afterwards as well. Basically called him a cheat without using the word.
"Something was not right there" were the words he used as I recall. Monaco would give us the best chance of progressing. Just hoping the dream continues!

I remember us getting robbed against Redstar too when the ball flew in the net while the half we were defending was filled with flare smoke. How that was allowed to stand I'll never know.

Well that is my wish granted I just knew in my bones it would be Atletico - just hope for a fair chance after that previous debacle.
