Is top 4 now a 'trophy'?

Not a trophy in the strictest sense I.e, one that is added to the cabinet but have we now got to the point where top 4 is more important than the Fa and league cup?

Is it more of an achievement to get top 4 than either cup and in seasons to come will making top 4 with 6 clubs spending decent amounts of money to come in said top 4 will that achievement become a trophy of sorts?

Most clubs are in competitions they cannot "compete in" (surely by that you mean stand a chance of winning???)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If you're not happy to just make up the numbers anyone can do something special, like Porto under Mourinho or Leicester last year.

Yes, so the original point of "What's the feckin' point being in a competition you can't compete in" is actually quite ignorant of what can happen in sport.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The money means that certain clubs prioritise qualifying for the champions league every year rather than actually competing once they get there. Money and mundanity over glory.

I don't think that is true, tbh. I don't think any team doesn't try and compete in the CL when they get there.
Some managers try and be clever in rotating, and picking which games they think are easier.

And some teams just come up against better teams. And some managers are not tactically adept enough to progress to the latter stages.

Fair point, but it's such a gravy train it's a disaster for some clubs if they don't qualify. Leeds business plan was based on qualifying every year, United's sponsorship level is dependent on qualification, Celtic's turnover is about 10 bob with the CL. It makes financial sense to prioritise qualification.

Me, I'll take an FA Cup or EFL Cup every time, but my club are lucky in that money's not a problem.

Some folk prefer to win a trophy and some would go for a chance to see their team compete in the CL, there is no right and wrong its just personal taste. Despite winning the Cup last season I don't think many United fans were crying in their beer when LVG was sacked and winning it twice recently hasn't stopped Wenger being under constant attack from the Arsenal crowd.

My question is what happens to the top 4 if United and Leicester don't get in yet win the CL and Europa?

If the Top 4 was a trophy, then Arsene Wenger would be the most successful manager and the most loved n England! He's also got the current record for that great piece of silverware, so I reckon he's going to stay another 10 years! 3 cheers for Arsene Wenger folks!

4th is a huge deal - probably more important than winning a cup.

It's sad too - I don't think money should be doled out for making the champions league unless you win it

I'd take top 4 over a league cup, which isn't a very prestigious trophy (I've been an advocate of scrapping it for years).

However you'll remember an fa cup a lot longer than cl qualification, depending on how well you do inot the competition.

We've only qualified once for the CL in possibly 4 years though. That's awful
