Pretty much my view on it. Have always been a fan of him back in the day and would have loved for him to have succeeded but he never did largely because of his fitness and injury problems, the very reason he was sold to us.

I understand why LVG took the risk in bringing in a player with such stature who knew the manager well, much like Jose has done with Zlatan this season but it never worked and he was largely poor for us bar maybe 2 or 3 games.

I did find the affection the guy got from so many United fans odd, it definitely wasn't for anything he did for us, I guess a positive social media helps these days.

Dont understand why we let him go right now, considering the number of games we have to play and he would have been useful to provide cover. Bizarre!

Just read it. Match fitness , injuries and not being able to handle the pace of the PL. Seems it was clear why there was lack of confidence from LVG & Jose . Was a great player in his prime though!!

He may not have done much for us, but hes one of the best of his generation. Pretty hard not to have respect a guy like that.

That being said, the guy was finished from the moment he got here. Offered nothing on the pitch you wouldn't get from an average mid table PL midfielder. The so called leadership he was supposed to bring evidently didn't influence the rest of the squad in the way LVG had probably hoped.

Rumours of him being banished from the first team dressing room etc were harsh if true. Other than that I have no problem with the way Jose used him.
