Birmingham 1-2 Derby / And is Hughes carp?πŸ€”

1500
St Andrew's Birmingham
Sat 8 April 2017

So the debate rages as to whether Will is craq or not and is Bryson the better midfielder and why is Will on the bench and the continual lauding of Richard Keogh from our very own 666

Going to Birmingham sees The Faithful in a better frame of mind after a thoroughly enjoyable match on Tuesday night. It gladdened the heart and raised the optimism levels but remember you are only ever 90 or 94 minutes away from a defeat.....

GR returns to the scene of his shock sacking ........could we see another sacking at Birmingham tomorrow?

Darren Bent is doubtful with a poorly nether but despite a dead leg Nugent is fit and raring. Dave has scored 5 in the last six for Derby. Ironically Bent has scored 4 goals in his last four games against Birmingham. The Blues have won just twice in 21 since Rowett was sacked, what price they chant his name tomorrow?

This one is for all the Scottish, Irish, Deep South, Spanish, Californian, Finnish, East Anglian and Spondon exiles who enhance the thread and make it really difficult to read on return from Pride Park 🍾🍾🍾🍾

Team news:-
Carson, Baird, Keogh (C), Pearce, Olsson; Bryson, Johnson; Ince, Butterfield, Russell; Nugent

Substitutes: Mitchell, Christie, Anya, Bent, Hughes, Camara, Vydra

It's all speculation tommo, as McLaren used to say. It's no secret that a great many top teams have been keeping tabs on Hughes but Derby have not needed to cash in nor has Hughes wanted to move. He's a clever lad and knows how he wants his career to develop. It's a fair bet that he would very much like to get promoted with Derby but how long will he wait? Newcastle have been linked previously and a bid from them in the summer would be no surprise. It all depends on whether Rowett sees him as integral to the team or as an asset to fund improvements elsewhere.

Forwards tend to be snapped up early because their prices can easily become astronomical. They get loaned out again and even if they aren't a great success they tend not to lose their value. Bamford was taken by Chelsea, hasn't achieved a great deal but is still worth more than they paid. It isn't a great gamble. Hughes is a bigger gamble for a top club because our valuation is very high and has been from the start. He isnt the sort of player you would loan out to get experience lower down. As I mentioned I see him as similar to Lallana in his development. He wasn't snapped up by anyone st a young age, was promoted with Southampton and then got his move. Will might travel in the same direction in a year or two.

I think there are signs that GR is not in opposition to selling Hughes provided the price is right and he can re-invest the proceeds. He has, after all left him out of 3 games which are important as long as we can mathematically make the play-offs.

The problem is who to invest the funds in?

The most impressive signings are those that TURN OUT to yield a surprising, good few goals from a promising youngster.

How about loaning him out to a Prem club to get experience for us when we go up next season?

...with the premium on homegrown players now that we're Brexiting and Jonny Foreigner will have to go play in Spain etc, surely #CB4 is in the £60m/£65m bracket by himself?!!

Hendrick worth twice as much as any current Derby player? Not even Backo thinks that surely?

I could buy 10 Jamie Hansons for one Darren Bent.

Straight swap would be fine.
