Another woeful performance by him on Saturday. He really should be packing it in now but instead plans to carry on fighting for another few years yet and thinks he deserves to be in the big fights.
In my opinion he's solely doing it for the money now. Cashing in on the Scottish crowd who are still gullible enough to pay top whack to see one of his fights.
He peaked in the Kevin Mitchell fight 5 years ago. He's genuinely terrible now, can't punch and is far too slow on the inside against any decent fighter. He clearly lost the last fight which went to him by decision and he's been pretty much outclassed for a few years now.
He still comes out after it smiling and 'he'll be back soon' etc which just tells me he's doing it for the money. Instead he should have been absolutely gutted and embarrassed by that performance.
He's done well over all to do what he's done but I'll be avoiding watching his next fight whenever it comes along. Brutal.

I dnt get why a fighter should just pack it in if he's not at world level anymore? people seem to think its world level and then just bums

That's not the point. It's Burns himself who is refusing to drop down a level. It's clear to see in his performances he just isn't good enough at that level now and it's against guy's who are pretty much unknown too.
Tell me how he has dropped to domestic level?

I meant his talent reflects domestic level, sorry for not being clear, and if he can still pull in crowds that's the promoters fault for the mismatches not the fighter, no fighter worth their salt will publically admit to not being good enough for a certain level their not wired like that, only thing that will stop it is if the crowds dont appear

He's also ruled out an all Scottish fight against Josh Taylor because of a 'who has he fought' attitude by Burns. Cause he knows he'd get beat and lose that status as Scotland's main fighter

Problem is he's never been that much of a puncher and his speed and fitness is in decline - not much to hang onto except his ability to withstand pain.

He's been in decline ever since switching trainer and promoter tbh

Think that was McGuigan targeting Burns as an easy title fight to be honest. I agree though Josh currently wins that fight easy.

I think Crolla(and Hearn) was probably targeting it also as an easy way of regaining World title status if Burns had won.
Where does Burns go from here though? And Crolla? Who is probably the Manchester equivalent of Burns, albeit maybe a slightly better fighter
Also, I don't think Tony Sims looks the best coach tbh, very laidback.
Was some atmosphere on Saturday but the crowd weren't really given anything to shout about as the fight went on.

Burns has always been a bit one dimensional.. Does the basics well, but not much more.
That said, he's always given it everything and despite no punching power, has one of the best chins in the business.
He simply got outclassed by Indongo on Saturday night, as he has whenever he's fought someone with genuine skills, i.e Crawford.
I wouldn't say he's past it.. more he never had it, but through hard work and solid technique has won world titles in three weights.
When he does retire it'll be with my best wishes as he's carried Scottish boxing for the past few years.
Felt sorry for the young boy Flynn as the other boy clearly nutted him, which will keep him out for a few months now when he'll be itching to get fights under his belt.

Have akways been a fan of Ricky and to be a 3 weight champion is an outstanding achievement, however agree with your article that his days at the top are done, scorecards were a bit of a joke too and could deter other fighters going to Scotland for a fight with the chance of being done on the cards.
Imagine if he ended up in the ring with Lomachenko!

It's not just Scotland.. It's any Hearn card in the UK.
We're slowly but surely turning into Germany when it comes to scoring home fighters.
