More points than 2nd last season

60 points we had last season at seasons close, one game to go and we have 73 points which is more than 2nd place had last season. Already an improvement of 13 points and 12 goals plus conceded 8 less so far.

All we can ask for is improvements and Klopp has delivered, CL or no CL the points, goals and defence has all improved from last season. In fact the league is getting harder statistically, Spurs, City and CFC have all improved from last season with more points now then the whole of last season. Arsenal and Utd have not yet surpassed last seasons totals but its likely they will...albeit not by much!

Back to us, with a touch more luck with injuries next season (PLEASE...no more season ending ACL's, thats just unfair now!) and the players Klopp has identified its possible we will once again be competing for CL, but so will the likes of CFC and City, and you have got to believe Utd will spnk another £300M.

Interesting next season for me, anyone of 5 could conceivably win it plus will the likes of Coutinho, Sanchez, Ozil, Dier, Delli all stay??

Dier - Utd
Walker - City
Alexis - Bayern
Ozil - stays
Coutinho - stays
Alli - stays

I'd be very surprised if Dier went.

Walker seems certain to be off now but I wouldn't have believed that 2 months ago so who knows in football.

all these stats are well and good but....

1. no europa league this year.. accounts for at least 8/9 points we didn't bother playing for at end of last year

2. added two really good players that made the real difference (mane and matip)

3. Coutinho and lallana upped their games, benefiting for positional changes of differing degrees.

Klopp had impact on 2 and 3 and his decisions last year were not there this.

Is the improvement to 76 points (hopefully) really that much given wehre we were after 19 games?

we had 43 points after 19 games (city) and have only got max 33 out of last 19.

In many ways prior to season people would have been happy with top 4 preseason given the competitive situation expected, however at mid season we were looking forward to trying to keep with chelsea and in league cup semi with easy 3rd round fa cup draw.

Lets face it, 4/5 players improvement and the results came form there but it is still a disappointed 2017 thus far and we need 4/5 first team players to improve next year.

Then it's your expectations that were the problem.

Personally I always felt we would fall away. I was hoping we pick up enough points to see us home by the time we fell away so it's going exactly as I thought it would.

We have punched above our weight, competing with and finishing above much stronger teams on paper. Once top 4 is confirmed I will be a very happy and satisfied camper.

I certainly would have been delighted. I thought 5th givne the competitive situation back in july/august.

At 19 games gone we had 43 points, semi final and a dolly draw in fa cup. It has to be disappointing how it went wrong but some character has been shown since then to recover.

Its only natural to be a little bit disappointed when it tails off and you miss the chances.

So just a year late pool fans.

Depends on how you are viewing the glass.

I am pleased and prefer to focus on what has been achieved against all odds, top 4 will be a coup IMO.

I would still have sacrificed both cups for a top 4 place if I had to chose after 19 games. Our squad is small, can't handle two games a week so the extra games in a long cup run could have compromised our top 4 chances.
