Spurs and City will be the biggest threats

to us retaining the title next season.

I know people will cite Jose's second season record but i think there is something broken with him and United that just simply won't be fixed to compete over 38 games next season. He and United as a club still have a winning mentality hence they are on course for two trophies despite such a rubbish season (a bit like how we kept winning cups when we were crap) but i can't see them having the consistency to keep up with us three.

Liverpool is a similar song, they have such a chronic issue with the results vs lesser sides that bar a huge summer outlay i can't see it being fixed to get the points require to challenge. However with Klopp's big game record (which is absolutely insane, the best ever in this league bar Jose mark 1 i think) they might stand a chance of doing something in the CL, and lets be honest, themselves in 2005 and us in 2012 show anything can happen in knockout football. For that reason i was hoping Arsenal pulled the rabbit out of the hat again because Liverpool actually stand an outside chance.

Arsenal, well if Wenger stays no explanation needed as to why they won't be challenging.

Which bring me onto the two who i think will be right up there next term, starting with Spurs. I think the Wembley thing is overhyped, may take a few games at worst but they will quickly get used to it, they have such a good defense which means even if they drop form they will probably still grind out points and even more worrying Kane looks like he has got over his fear of British Summer time.

City, despite inconsistent results have shown signs of just how good they will look when Pep has his own players. Most bad results this season has came down to mistakes from Bravo or players not suiting his brand of football, all of which will be replaced in the summer. Ederson from Benfica and a few proactive defender's and they will be ridiculously tough to play against.

Luckily we have a manager that has such drive and won't allow anything but the sheer consistency we have shown this campaign, and we will need that more than ever next time as i truly believe it could be the first campaign a team get to 90 points (in a 38 game season) yet still miss out.

The only reason city wont win the league will be because of the refs,.according to their fans anyway.

I agree with most of your article and agree that City will probably be the ones closest to you. Spurs obviously all depend on how they cope with Wembley.
Just regarding us, whilst we did have some issues with the "smaller teams" calling it chronic is maybe slightly OTT. We have beaten every team in the league this season bar Bournemouth, United and Southampton. The reason we fell away is due to an awful run from mid January where we won 1 league game in 7. Those 7 included games against Chelsea, United and Spurs. It also included a terrible time to play away at Leicester as it was the first game post Ranieri.
That is where we fell away, it isn't some kind of consistent/chronic terrible form against poor teams.

Chelsea though will be the team to beat and I see it being between you and City with 3rd-6th being anyone from Spurs, us, United and Arsenal.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

But how many have you done the double over?

When i see you in a lot of games vs lesser sides you seem nervous and when they are well set up tactically you don't seem to have a clue how to break them down, it was a similar problem for us in the Zola, Vialli years which is why we could never sustain a title challenge despite often being in the race at Christmas and having the team capable.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

That has probably been the case for around 5 games at Anfield. For over half the season we were dismantling teams at home when they were parking the bus. Our issues come from losing form at the time I highlighted. You simply can't go 7 games and only win 1.

Fair enough, even if i exaggerated a bit the record compared to big games is still something that needs addressing.

I don't usually agree with GB but from the outside he may have been onto something when he said it was a mentality thing, none of the league's top manager's have exposed Liverpool's weaknesses yet Marco Silva, Allardyce, Clement etc all have.

The big 5 will all be there or thereabouts. Whoever does the best summer business starts a favourite for me.

Arsenal's decline seems more permanent and with nothing changing anytime soon, i think we can count them out of any title talk based on the decline and mentality of players currently at the club.
