Boxing world series line-ups SMW / Cruiser

Super-middleweight

George Groves v Jamie Cox

Callum Smith v Erik Skoglund

Chris Eubank Jr/Arthur Abraham v Avni Yildirim

Jurgen Brahmer v Rob Brant

Cruiserweight

Oleksandr Usyk v Marco Huck

Murat Gassiev v Krzysztof Wlodarczyk

Mairis Briedis v Mike Perez

Yunier Dorticos v Dmitry Kudryashov

---------------------------------
Groves, Smith and Eubank Jr picked their opponents at the draw in Monte Carlo as they were seeded. Eubank Jr was represented by his father.

Groves said choosing Cox was "strategic", adding: "It's a long tournament and you pick the easy guys first."

Smith, meanwhile, sacrificed a WBC world title shot against Anthony Dirrell to take part.

"I think stylistically, Erik is the best fight for me," he said.

I'm hoping this will be a success.

I think what the Super 6 tried to do was fantastic and despite the high standard of competitor, I think it was a failed experiment. It just took too long (over 2 years) and the format meant that the drop out of boxers (half of them!) played havoc with scheduling.

I like the simplicity of the tournament format with seedings. If something like this could prove successful and attract the calibre of the super 6 fighters then it would be a real treat.

The super six was a great success.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

As difficult as it is to debate against such a well structured argument; why do you think it was a great success?

There were issues with drop outs and replacements, unoffocials fights, tune up fights and Johnson made the semi final off the back of 1 fight.

On the plus side, it established Ward as the best of the bunch but the format really wasn't great.

It was a success because it pitted the best fighters against each other in thrilling and entertaining fights. The final was contested between the two best middleweights on the planet and the best middleweight came out on top in Andre ward. Everything else in irrelevant.

It took over 2 years and half the original field pulled out but that's irrelevant?!

I agree that pitting the best against each other is fantastic and the way boxing should be. That makes it a great idea rather than a great format imo. It's why I hope this tournament is a success; same positives but without the drop out caused by the round robin bouts. Could be a real winning format.

i thought the super 6 was a farce but then again its just my opinion

this looks like a better format. a proper ko format

huge test for chris eubank jnr. arthur abraham is no mug and he is an experienced boxer of the very elite calibre.

abraham is good not great he's never been world level, 37 now and couldn't even make weight, Eubank should knock him out comfortably
