Undisclosed fee, probably 2m as discussed./

Nottingham Forest are delighted to announce that striker Daryl Murphy has joined the club on a three-year deal.

The Republic of Ireland international joins The Reds for an undisclosed fee from Newcastle United, where he scored five times in 14 appearances last season to help The Magpies to promotion to the Premier League.

Boro to finish top. After that, the top six could be five from fifteen teams; Sunderland, Hull, Villa, Norwich, Reading, Fulham, Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds, Derby and Forest. Probably Brentford, Brum, Sheffield United and Wolves to that. Ok, that's 14, but it's anyone's game.

Perhaps the most insane comment ever posted.
Forest to be in with a shout of the play-offs.

Hardly insaneI can't see Forest in play offs myself but if you've watched any football in this league over the last 4-5 years you'll know any team can put a run together. Villa could storm the league or just as easily get relegated. It's a mad league and even Forest could squeeze into top 6. More likely we'll finish top 12 though. Can't see Derby in top 6 either now they're having to sell to balance the mess of the last two seasons.

Exactly, Huddersfield won the play offs the year after finishing font far off the bottom the season before...

...but I can't see Forest getting better than top ten in all honesty. 😬

Vellios won't give his place up without a fight. Another two against Mansfield this afternoon after his goal v County on Wednesday. Forest handed out a 4-0 drubbing to the Stags. Cummings scored his first for Forest and Walker rounded the keeper for a good finish.

Insane?! lol

We'll see. Other than the Gobi desert league it's the most competitive in the world. If I'd have said ten years ago that Bournemouth, Brighton, Burnley and Huddersfield were promoted you'd have called me insane also?!

So, the question then. Who is in with a shout of the play-offs/

Top six imo...

Boro
Villa
S Weds
Fulham
Hull
Reading

Sunderland - losing Defoe.
Norwich - losing everyone.
Derby - rebuilding.
Leeds - no Monk.
Wolves - too soon.
Brum - Harry fecks it.
Brentford - depends who they lose.
S Utd - promotion bounce.

Forest (what the Derby boys have been waiting for) - pre-season with the same manager. Lost Britt, using the money to repair the whole team, no Fawaz, record season ticket sales. Proven manager.

We have a lot of tough games at the start of the season. Got to hope for a good start and a flirty top ten. When the easy games kick in, keep the momentum and build. Greek dude gets out his wallet and surprises us all. Top six kind of makes sense then. It's the same for every team.

In football as in life I don't have generalised realistic expectations. I have mine. I'm heart on the sleeve, balls out..expecting a promotion every season. It motivates me and keeps me interested. Why follow your team otherwise?

MW speech before games...alright lads, do what you want, history will ignore us. 50 points should do us. Jog on. Is that what you tell your team everyday?!

I telll them that they are awesome, their balls out look just as lovely as mine and they are a match for any team. We are going to kill today, walk home proud and crack open a beer or three.

Barring injuries to others I can't see Murphy starting many games can you? Vellios, Brereton and Cummings must all be ahead of him.

Plenty of cameos for him though

Interesting how others see the squad

Assuming 4-2-3-1, my first choice forward line would be

Cummings Clough McKay
Murphy

With Brereton Carrayol Ward supporting from the bench

We've definitely got options up front. Still think we look very short at the back though. I'd like to see is sign a quality CB given Hobbs' injury record and the inconsistency of Mancienne and Mills. We definitely need another LB and cover for Lichaj. Unless MW thinks we have the youngsters to cover those positions?

has warburton done away with 4-3-3?

every game bar one for us was a flat 4-3-3,he played a 3-5-2 once against celtic

cummins is a centre forward not wide and mckay will play left forward

Warburton has played a number of different formations pre season and got pretty much the whole of the squad involved in the games so far. Hard to tell what formation he will settle on.

Cummings is definitely a centre forward. Made a great run for his goal with a good turn of pace. Confident finish. He could be the league's surprise package...

Cummings first choice would be centre forward but Warburton hinted that he likes coming of the right wing and using his left, so he could play with in the 3 attacking midfield role.

We have played several formations depending of who is available, he seems very flexible
