DFC 1 DUFC 1 (DUFC win 4-3 on pens)

The Terrors topped group C after claiming the bonus point with a penalty shoot-out victory after drawing the first - but not the last - derby of the season.

However topping the group only allowed Arabs everywhere bragging rights for a week and a half after the draw for the next round drew United with Dundee again, and again the game will be played at Dens. I'll be honest, it took the edge off the 'win' yesterday given that there has literally been no reward for topping the group. Once again it makes the SPFL look a little farcical.

I thought it was a decent game yesterday and there wasn't much between the teams. The Dees probably had the better chances, and we were fortunate not to lose the game late on after they hit the post (which I thought was in all the way) and then Lewis made a fine save at the feet of their number 21, who I thought was a major threat all game and gave Scobbie a torid afternoon. Not that we didn't have chances - King hitting the post earlier in the game - while there were a few times we should have had a shot but didn't.

Lewis was terrific in the goal (apart from some slow distribution) and I was surprised to see him get the nod. It looks very much like the 19 year old will be our starting keeper for the season.

I thought the balance of the team was good, particularly given that we started without a striker, and McMullan did a decent job leading the line. I think we'll be better however when he's back out wide where his direct running will cause a lot of problems - although it still caused problems centrally. It'll be interesting to see how the team develops with McDonald as he comes in - he didn't touch the ball for about 10 minutes after coming on but he showed his experience in winning a few freekicks by using his body to shield the ball.

Good performances - Lewis and McMullan as mentioned stood out, but I thought Briels was very good in midfield. I'm very pleased with what he's offered so far and I think he'll be a stand out signing. Apparently Ray is in the press saying he is working on a deal for a new midfielder too. Stanton was good until he tired in the second half, and I think the same happened to the two centre halves. I actually thought Allardice was okay in the middle of the park and again Toshney wasn't terrible, which seems to be a habit now from him, although he wasn't great at the goal.

Poor performances - Scobbie was awful, as was Fraser who just looks unfit and still struggling with his injury. Mentally he looked shattered as well after being shunted out wide.

The Dees - The lad on the right wing was good for them, but I was disappointed in the striker Moussa who I thought was pash, despite the Dees hyping him up. Ultimately I was unimpressed with them and they'll have to step it up if they want to have an assault on the top six. In saying that i'd still make them favourites for next week.

We do it all again though next midweek and I'm looking forward to it.

Finally, it would be wrong of me not to comment on the half time minter - I honestly cannot believe that one of them paid a couple of grand to get Wagner to come up, wear a Dundee shirt and do the half time draw. I was genuinely embarassed for them. And it was doubly so since the night before an Arab got him to sing 'we won the league at Dens, fly the flag'. That is why they are known as The Fun.

Is the "Doon Derby" officially a name now for the game a few seasons back that sent the Arabs down?

UTC, it's the term the fans use, and apparently the official Dundee FC twitter account.

Weird, I didn't think Scobbie was that bad and would have put Allardice in the "awful" category. He just didn't seem to do anything. Although Flood replaced him and just gave away fouls. Quite funny reading other United fans' opinions on the game, as some had Scobbie as playing well, others thought he was terrible, some hated Briels others loved him. Pretty much the same for every player; even saw McMullan getting stick. All very inconsistent.

Agree about Fraser though. Can't keep playing him like that as he's clearly not right. Not entirely sure who our other options are though. And as Border pointed out, he did help set up the goal.

Hobo

I thought Scobbie got turned inside out by the lad on the right wing. He never got to grips with him at all. In the first half the boy kept doing a wee step over then going to the by-line and Scobbie bought it every time.

I'm not a fan of Allardice but I thought he moved the ball quite well and it was easily his best game in United shirt.

And I can't believe people don't like Briels

I quit that thread btw. Too much mud slinging over discussion.

I agree. It's a shame because it lasted a long time with decent discussion.
