Whilst there are often sporting gestures made by fans in many sports, in football they seem to be few and far between.
When I was younger I remember that if a player did something special on the pitch, whether it was a show of skill or scoring a memorable goal it was often applauded by both sets of fans.
These days it is certainly less apparent especially in the PL, where supporters are just as likely to shout abuse at their own players, let alone the opposition.
So I just wanted to say a very big thank you to the Huddersfield fans who stood and applauded Harry Kane when he was substituted on Saturday.
These were proper football fans who recognised that they had watched a really top class footballer at work, despite it affecting their own team’s performance.
To giving a standing ovation to an opposition player is testimony to the sporting nature of the Huddersfield fans
The only other club I can remember whose fans used to applaud opposition players were Liverpool fans.
Huddersfield Town have shown on the pitch that they are worthy of a place in the PL, now their fans have shown they are also top tier!
We should give them a special welcome when they visit us at Wembley👏
Thank you Huddersfield fans from a life long Spurs fan!

Greavsie, I have to pay tribute to your own fans. When Matthew Harding firstly and subsequently Peter Osgood died and Spurs were the next game up on both occasions your fans behaviour was impeccable during the silences and ceremonies for both occasions.
I know that there is normally an edge between our 2 sets of supporters, but it was very refreshing to see that tribalism and rivalry was suspended for a short period and respects were paid as we would all like to have seen them.
Such was the behaviour of the Spurs fans for Matthew Harding, that I witnessed something that I thought I would never ever see in this lifetime. Chelsea fans on a large scale were actually applauding the Spurs fans as a mark of respect, for the respect that they had shown earlier. Any fans who were present and actually witnessed the events (like Hounslows finest) will concur that the scenes were absolutely extraordinary to witness. Fair play to Spurs fans for the big part that they played in that.

They're actually cardboard but whatever. My 6 year old loves getting one when he goes to the games as it's the best way he can make some noise so I don't see what your problem is.

My problem is that they’re “pointless and annoying” as I stated in the post to which you replied to. Self-explanatory....

Pointless and annoying. A bit like griping about something that makes no discernible difference to your everyday life?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Doesn’t matter if it makes a difference to everyday life or not.

It doesn't matter at all. It's folded cardboard. You must be one seriously angry b-stard to let stuff like that wind you up 🤔
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It doesn’t matter in your opinion, it does in my opinion. No not angry at all. Why would I be angry, because I don’t like something that you may not? What sort of foolish ‘logic’ is that?

It really doesn't matter. Yet instead of acknowledging the classy touch by our fans mentioned in the OP, you decide to have a cheap pop at us because we have clackers under the seats. The kids love them as a child isn't going to clap all game long, they help to raise the noise levels around all areas of the stadium, and as an away fan, you have to experience them for no more than 90 minutes a season. Whilst mine stays under the seat on a matchday, I'm glad others use them. Even if it is just to wind up miserable s like yourself.
