Hibernian 2-4 Celtic

The Good

Dembele- I felt like Griffiths was poor up front for us, he offered very little to link the play and even when Hibs came out to attack second half he didn't really get involved. Dembele was the opposite, I liked the way he held the ball up, linked well with our attacking midfielders and actually made good runs in behind. This was more of the Dembele from last season and you could see the difference he made, not just in his goals but his all round play. The finish for the clincher I thought was beautifully composed curling round the keeper into the bottom corner on the angle.

Brown- He was made to work in that second half, I felt he made a number of key interceptions and tackles that broke up the Hibs play before they could get up a head of steam. He did the dirty work that needed to done to ensure the flair players could go and win us the game.

Armstrong- I thought he looked good, our go to player to make forward purposeful passes, especially in the first half. I think we are a better team with him in the first XI.

Boyata- he made one notable mistake and it cost us a penalty (well it didn't really, that one belongs to Kevin Clancy and his linesman), I felt that he defended pretty well with Hibs being limited to one clear sight of goal as Whittaker slid in their substitute to finish beyond Gordon. Stokes was kept particularly quiet and despite conceding the 2 goals we were relatively solid.

The Bad

Roberts- he's entitled to have a bad game, today just wasn't his day. Nothing came off, he kept showing for the ball but his passing was loose and his dribbling wasn't up to his usual high standards. He was our best player on Wednesday night in my eyes and I think it was wise to take him off on the hour so that he can work his magic this coming Wednesday at Pittodrie.

Gordon- I understand that he has been given instructions to pass out from the back, that is the way we play but in that second half, the way he delayed on the ball to the last possible second and floated chipped balls into the space between midfield and defensive lines was suicidal. He had to be bailed out on numerous occasions with last ditch tackles and scramble defence. It just felt so unnecessary- use common sense and play the sensible pass.

Callum McGregor- probably a tad harsh but much like Roberts he didn't hit the level that we have been seeing from him recently. I'm not concerned though as I did feel that our team overall looked fatigued from Wednesday night so it was never going to be a vintage display.

Overall

Considering the runaround we got on Wednesday night and the set back we had with the penalty incident this was a job well done. The benefits of Dembele's managed reintroduction to the team were on show as he made the difference in attack, affording us the cutting edge and quality to see us through to the final. I've seen big decisions go against us at Hampden in our recent history and consequently our team has crumbled under the weight of it. Hibs got confidence from the goal of course but we didn't allow that set back to stop us from playing our game, getting caught in the moment and losing the plot. We kept our composure, defended well and scored the goals to win the game.

Onwards and upwards.

Big mad mikael. Got absolutely roasted by an unheard of winger in the first half. Lost the plot and started diving into challenges. Salvaged his afternoon with a couple of jammy goals.

I can only remember one good run that Barker had in the first half and only one lunge (after his second goal when he was still full of adrenalin) when Mika was rightly booked. Also the first goal was an excellent finish - the second was a bad goalkeeping mistake, so I'll give you that one. I also agree that KT was dead on his feet, so don't know why you mentioned that in the same post?

I've recorded the full match so will watch again tomorrow - will admit I'm wrong if my view of Mika's performance is too complimentary However I think that you and others on here are too eager to point the finger at Lustig and don't give him the credit he deserves.

I disagree

Here are the actual facts

I thought McGregor was poorer than Armstrong. I thought Armstrong tired badly in the second half. Neither were hugely influential and it was a 50/50 who was going off

Sinclair as is usual this season was poor and often well out of position. He is also very predictable when he got the ball

Griffiths couldn't get the ball to stick and was rightly subbed. Rogic got the ball well bit overdone it every time

Tierney looked dead in his feet with 15 to go

Forrest was a waste of a sub

FACT

I said fact so I am right

Well played sir. It was a schoolboy error on my part.

After all the years on this site I momentarily forgot that facts are only trumped by actual facts.

I left myself wide open and you took full advantage. Just like Christmas 2015
