Ray McKinnon is expected to be formally sacked today after what was one of the worst performances from a United side I've ever seen.
And that's saying something given the horrendous performances we've seen over the last few years.
I have never seen a United side show such a lack of heart and fight as the team that took to the field on Saturday. We were swiped aside by a Caley Thistle team that have struggled badly so far this campaign.
To put it into context, Coll Donaldson, one of the worst players to ever feature for United, had the cigars out at centre half for ICT and was never troubled.
The players are culpable for that, but the manager even more so. There is no plan with this United team. No shape, no tactical ideas behind how we set up. He puts out 11 players in a vague shape (442 on Saturday) and then they just go out and play. And then in the second half there was no shape. I have no idea what system we were meant to be playing.
He incredibly took off McMullan, a winger, for Murdoch, a midfielder-come-full back and pushed Durnan up front. Despite having a target man striker on the bench that he signed. And then when he was put up front, we didn't change what we were trying to do at all so it was utterly pointless. We still passed the ball into the midfield, then back, then gave it away without ever looking like scoring.
The goals conceded were amateur, and that's been the trend this season.
Utterly horrendous.
So who will be the new manager? Honestly, I've no idea, and none of the contenders have me excited. McIntyre - failure (who was apparently overlooked for the Falkirk job). Hughes - failure (who relegated Raith Rovers ffs). Houstie? Stubbs? No idea.
Utterly disillusioned with everything about the club at the moment and the truth is we've become a basketcase. It's a club that is tearing itself apart and we need a manager who can unite the club. I doubt we'll get that.
I'll add one final point - I saw on social media a lot of people directing their frustrations at the chairman. He is massively culpable for much that is wrong with the club, but the truth is McKinnon was generally felt to be the best candidate available, most fans were happy with his appointment, and he's been given the resources to get us promoted. This time it's not the chairman's fault imo. He still needs to go though.

Anyhow, superficially 4th in the league doesn't look too bad. But considering we have the highest budget in the league by far it's simply not good enough. 10 goals in 10 games is pathetic - Dunfermline have 25 in 10 and only 3 teams worse than us - the two part-timers and Falkirk who just got rid of the most negative manager in world football, known to actually play for a narrow loss.
I'd be happy enough with McIntyre to be honest. Harshly sacked at Dunfermline, good job at QotS, won a trophy with Ross County and then fairly harshly sacked again.
Plus he scored a decisive Panenka penalty in a shoot-out once, so he has that going for him:

Yeah Ivan, sounds like you have a few inches on me.
You're also taller - I'm only 5'9".
Plus I wear my trousers on my hips because anything else is ridiculous. To be honest, I'm probably the one with the mutant shape. I have absolutely no upper body mass and a load of fat on my gut/arsch.

Hard to disagree with that article border. It all makes sense.
