Watching u17 semi versus brazil

I must say the quality has been very good. England have some very good technically good players the right winger (foden) looks like he can play good stuff and Brewster looks clinical. The cb (15) looks solid as well.

Must say the Brazilians do not look that good on an individual basis.

at this sorta age group British teams always seem to do well. Thats cos we put a lot of emphasis on the physical demands of the game and winning the game at all cost even at these young age groups.

Most other nations tend to focus on the technical aspect of the game at this age as they know that physically they will develop when they get older.

In the long term its far more beneficial to develop the technical side but (especially in England) they have to try and justify the budget being spent so MUST get results and this becomes more important than the young players long term goals. In terms of technique the British game is further behind most nations than it has been for some time now.

delboy absolutely spot on with your post, and having worked in coaching and played for a pro team it was that way, and looks to still be that way.

Sorry not having that. Maybe that was the case few years back but certainly not with this team. Are you watching this match or any do their games this tournament?

If anything the Brazilians are the more physical team and England are playing some fantastic moves.

Not seen the game you are referring to but Im talking about training sessions day in day out. If you have watched the sessions you would know exactly what I am talking about. The reason in games the players look better is cos their fitness is miles ahead meaning their technique doesnt suffer during games.

ps its more obvious now than ever so the 10 years remarks are way off .... the budgets now are much higher than ever and pressure to produce results is higher than ever with the new acadamies.

Also kids just dont enjoy the game at young ages as much as they used to do. Training is so serious and focused that a lot of youths fall out of love with game at very young ages due to this. They cannot play with their mates in teams due to Pro Youths rules etc....

be interesting to check in 5 years time and see just where these kids are. So many of our big clubs dont give a chance to good young prospects so will spend millions buying ready-mades from abroad instead - so sad

U17is a grade imo where you can look amazing and in a couple years at u19 you look average.

They should be proud of what they are doing now and not get carried away

Shooting emselves in the foot, picking players on physical prowess and early developers rather than the technically good players. Over coaching them and then wondering why they don't make it, then having to buy from abroad the same type of players they would not have picked in their youth. Because they have developed.
